tl-s 5at vs tuned civic si

decided to make an official drag race because we could never decide which car is faster. lined up at the red light, road completely clear in front of us, we decided on a finish line about 1/4 mile down the road. my friends SI is tuned and has launch control. i did a little brake torquing and turned off vsa. light turns green and we both take off at the same time. it was a VERY even race and by the finish line i had at most half a car on him.
this guy is a very good driver and he tracks his car, so there wasnt a driver error. we both had good launches(keep in mind he also has launch control) and shifts. he did have 1 person in his car, and we both agreed that if he didnt have anyone we should have been neck to neck.

a car with launch control is running neck and neck with an auto TL-S with only a CAI??

seems his money should be focused on things that actually make his car faster.

I have a flash pro / dyno tuned 08' Civic Si with I/H/E. Let me just say, my launch control is useless. I have tried many different RPM setting but I just end up lighting up the tires (aka no traction). I would love to know how your friend has any luck with it.

I personally haven't been to the track since I got her tuned by Mike @ Autowave in Huntington Beach. Dying to get back there though. A group of my friends from 8thcivic like to go to Fontana's 1/4 mile and mess around. Plus one of our friends has a 500 whp meth consuming EVO IX which is fun to watch. I would love to get out there with some classy TL's.

LOL...not sure what you meant, but that car with launch control has 4cyl and the TL-S has 6.

my friend and i have the exact same tires, 235/45/17 hankook v12, so maybe thats why it explains the very even takeoff. i knew my car had the best chance against him from a dig because of the torque of my v6, so i guess the launch control helps his 4 cylinder takeoff just as fast as a v6. it seemed like he was screeching his tires more than i was though from takeoff. heres a picture of his car, maybe you've seen or heard of him.

I see. I have the v12's as well but in the stock 215/45/17. He has more rubber on the ground than me. Even so I feel better launching it myself, slipping the clutch a little.

Your buddy's car looks nice. Is he on 8thcivic? If so what's his SN?

Nice kill man. Does he have full bolt ons? Plus a FlashPro tune? If so, then I'm a little surprised at the outcome. I would've expected him to pull at least a full car through the 1/4 mile. But I guess since he had a passenger, that makes things a little different. Good job

PS I'm on 8thcivic too lol. "3.Slow6MT"

I'm the owner of the civic.

Pretty much all I have done power wise is injen replica cold air intake with K&N filter, Kiddracing (SSR Rep. Header), Invidia Q300, Hondata Flash Pro (tuned by magnesium from crsx). Should be around 210-22whp.

Launch control is set at 3k, and pretty much I get wheelspin for a good second or two until it catches.

I think you meant:

Sorry to bash the thread, but aren't you the same guy complaining that your tranny is about to go? I dunno if it's the smartest thing to do when your transmission is about to die.

if you have a set of bald tires you are replacing soon, what are you gonna do with them? obviously you wont care if they get messed up so you might have fun with them for awhile. same situation here. btw the tranny slip ONLY occurs at midrange rpm, anything over 5k is a perfect shift, so its actually better to go WOT than driving it slow. remember each slip wears the tranny out, so i have 2 choices to avoid the slip: let go of the gas during the shift, or go WOT.

Or you could drive your car like a normal person and avoid major transmission wear all together .

Money on the base as well. An intake isn't going to be enough against a decent driver.

to a point, indeed it can be.... cause the ecu should be applying full line pressure to the shifts, compared to to letting off the throttle, for the reduce power part of it

and fuck, if you own a car, DRIVE IT, and don't just let it be a garage/trailer queen, for actually doing what a car is suppose to do, DRIVE

haha

its not that they suck. It is just the gearing advantage that a 6spd has over the 5spd. If the TL-S came with a 6AT instead of the 5AT then I wouldn't doubt that a Auto TL-S would pull a 6MT TL.

Look at the difference in performance with a 4th Gen TL SH AWD 5AT vs 6AT. HUGE!

The 4th gear just stinks, imo. Now, that could probably be fixed if you bought that AEM tuning module they're using with the turbo cars as the 4th gear pulled pretty well on the dyno once the limiter was removed.

But, it's a pricey mod just for a little more pull on a N/A auto.

Or if the TL 5AT or TL-S had the Accord V6's gearing it would fair much better. The Accord V6 5ATs 4th gear is 9% shorter than the TL and TL-S 5AT.
