are the tl rear's LEDs?
If kept as LEDs, it must be controlled via Pulse Wave Modulation, which is something far easier then is sounds, but would add extra cost to the unit...so a broken tail would cost significantly more based upon parts alone, plus design, R&D, etc., etc...

Don't damage that LED board, it's quite pricey.
Honestely when I upgraded my signal bulbs to the 48SMT towers from v-led's I didn't see that much of a difference in brightness. I guess the reflector kills a lot of the output.
