TL has more than 270hp?

I know the 04/05 TLs have 270hp. When I test drove the car, the salesman said that it REALLY has 280hp, but for "insurance purposes, they say it's at 270". I'm sure he's full of it. Anyone else hear this from sales?

Yes, that is salesman fluff - in Japan, 280 has some sort opf meaning, but not here. With the HP war going on, 270 is nothing to get worked up over - it is the theft rate of Hondas that is the killer.

The Supercharged Cobras are rated at 390 HP, but regularly do 420 on the dyno - but that was not for insurance purposes, it was because Ford did not want a repeat of the debacle the previous Cobra engine had - not meeting its 320 HP rating by a long shot due to a fatal engineering to mfg goofup that lowered the compression in the production cars.

<sigh> Car salespeople really will never change will they? When I test drove the 04 Accord before I bought it, the salesperson swore the car had bluetooth. I asked him what bluetooth would do for me (I of course knew the answer to the question before I asked it) and he couldn't tell me. Needless to say I didn't purchase a car from him.

Some analyses and ppl/reviews believe 3G TL's engine should be able to gain more power after some additional tune-up and works. Many of tests and reports show this engine is capable of generating more power.

Your salesman is living in the past, there used to be tariffs on Japanese imports based on engine size (displacement or HP). This was on everything from cars to motorcycles to outboard engines ... those tariffs were lifted quite some time ago.

Is that what caused the problem? I am a former 99 Cobra owner, and mine dyno'd at like 261 (whould have been at 272 or so, if I remember correctly). Anyway, they gave everyone an extrude-hone intake and revised mufflers..

Even in Japan they are beginning to scrap the 280hp self-limit idea...

I was reading this Japanese car magazine, they are making a number of interesting cars such as the next Supra by Toyota, the new GT-R by Nissan and the next NSX, all of which are suppose to be over the 280hp limit. I think we will see something interesting in 2007 or so.

I believe the TL 6-speed dynos around 220hp. If it was 280hp, then the TL would have 21.4% drivetrain loss. At 270hp, its 18.5% drivetrain loss which is much more reasonable.

mio, I think he was talking about horsepower at the wheels, which is much less than the horsepower at the crankshaft.

DON'T SELLL just yet... The ~220 is REAR WHEEL HP, flywheel HP is ~270. That's the way they ALL do it.

According to VTEC.net (aka TOV) the TL was purposely bottled up a bit. So with a few simple mods it should go to around 285 or 290 hp.

I'm pretty sure the TL does however, have 270 at the crankshaft. Its the ACCORD that is underrated.

Actually, it is 298hp. Its on Infiniti's website. Both the coupe and the sedan will get 298hp with 260 ft/lbs of torque in 6MT only. Both coupe and sedan autos only get 280hp (notice the sedan has a 38hp boost and 20hp boost in sedan from

BTW, the new 298hp VQ is structurally different from that of the auto version. Redline has been increased from 6500rpms to 7000 rpms. Also internals have been strengthened to achieve this new horsepower. Many on the G35 forums theorize that its the similar treatment by the Nisma VQ. Notice that the torque rating has lowered on the 6MT model. Both VQ versions are optimized for their respective trannies...the lower torque numbers won't really hurt driving performance for manuals because of the extra gear and added controls that come with a clutch. Also, the higher torque rating of the auto version matches perfectly with automatics which benefit greatly from broad torque bands.

Just wanted to inform readers on the facts. Sorry about taking the thread from its intended purpose but I do not like mis-information

To get back to subject, has there been development on an ECU that will release some of the 3.2L power?

That is funny. We must've either had the same sales guy (I think Joseph) or that's what Park Acura tells everyone. He also quoted me $33,500 for the 05 w/ Nav, so I don't know what to believe. What did you pay for yours there? Do you get the 05TL w/ Nav?

Open Road Acura in Wayne. They were honest (for the most part), or at least straight forward with me. They gave it to me at invoice, but they reamed me on my trade so thats where they ended up making their money.

i never felt like they were trying to pull a fast one on me though.

I think when a nice, affordable, decent exhaust comes out, Mine will have 290 hp (with the CAI).
That should be nice.
