With your logic I guess we can put the Ford Taurus, Chevy Impala, Buick Century, Honda Accord and Toyota Camry in the same class as the BMW M5, MBZ E55 AMG, and Audi S8.
Exactly, if they are the same size, why not compare?

There are many ways to compare but the ones that most people do (IMHO) are based on size or money:

1. Of the cars that meet my passenger carrying (interior volume)objectives, which is the best in terms of performance, features, quality?

2. Of the cars that cost a certain dollar amount which is the best?

As far as approximate passenger volume goes TSX=3 series, TL=5 , RL=7.

I know that Consumer Reports divides its rankings up based on near-luxury and luxury. I always thought this was based on price not size. It is probably unfortunate that they make this distinction since some "near-luxuries" would probably rank higher than some "luxuries" in their evaluation.

It is not fair to compare performance of two different sized cars because the smaller one will usually win in the handling/slalom/track department while the larger may be more comfortable.

Drive all the cars that meet your price and size criteria (then drive a couple that are too much money so you can feel smart :p ) and make your choice. My .02
