TL is down =/

I WAS NOT DRIVING. I am in Baltimore, MD my grandmother is sick. My sister had a final and took the TL to it.

I got a text at 11 saying someone totally damaged the TL. I thought it might not be bad but I got another text with pictures. It looks really bad.

The side mirror is gone, the bumper is hanging on hinges, and 2 huge baseball size dents in the hood and quarter panel. Whoever hit her didn't even stop. So its a hit and run.

My parents are extremely angry and being the asian parents they are blaming everything on her for parking close, for driving the car, for everything. Yes that is how asian parents work. I remember when I installed HID fogs in my 5 the taillight went out my dad went on a rage stating "the HID fogs caused it"

I will share pictures with you soon guys. I am just upset and glad my sister is okay. No cameras so can't check that out. Our deductible is $1000 for hit and run I think so can't even claim it. I know for a fact my dad will not give $1000 to fix it. I am hoping I can get rid of the dents with dry ice and the bumper can pop back in since it seems the clips are out. Hopefully the side mirror replacement won't cost to much. I remember seeing one for $65 I can wrap them both in carbon fiber and save money not painting it.

I might sell the TL and get something cheap 4-5k to drive around. I can't keep worrying about my car if I have a cheap beater I can last throughout school and get a nice car when I am done with school!

Man sorry to hear that, what a sad story. Good to hear that your sis is OK. Try to work around with the car repair before thinking in selling. Good luck.

Man, I am so sorry about your car. I hate hit-and-run; happened to me once and it's such a helpless feeling.

Thanks for kind replies. Yeah I am hoping to budget out the repair. Its not really my sisters fault so I don't think she should be paying for it. Since it is my car I would rather get it done and then see what needs to be done.

I am hoping the dry ice will get the big dent out. I am not sure how someone could hit the car. What I think happened and from what she told me. The car was parked backed in at a parking spot. Someone tried backing in and obviously failed either once or multiple times. I think multiple times.

I asked her to push the bumper in...it goes in but pops out. I am thinking its not even. I am hoping the bumper will just need to be readjusted. As for the mirror goes I will see where I can get a good deal. Maybe check out a few junk yards next weekend. I hope the turn signal mirrors are plug and play.

Yes I am indian haha but all asian parents are the same....blame everything but the obvious.

Well, you gotta admit, the passenger side mirror sitting on top of the car is somewhat telling...it's generally a below-average day when that's where your mirror is now located.

I can't because I am in Balitmore. I will ask her to get more pictures. The front bumper from a bad quality pic looks like it has scrapes so it looks looks like whoever it was failed twice trying to back in.

+1.

I can't ever imagine being in a accident. My cousin totaled his 335i (lost control on curve with DSC off) I was behind him...we called my uncle. I lie you not, the first thing my uncle said was "How bad is the car damaged?".

lol better than my aunt. I was going to our local boba shop and got rear ended, so I called my aunt cause I knew she was near by. All she said was to get her a drink and didn't offer any help.

But I agree with Asian parents always blaming you for stuff happening. I'm filipino and whenever me or my friends would fall as kids our parents would just be like "mmmm I told you to be careful."

Anyone really care at who's at fault? This is why we have insurance, and at the end of the day she is your sister. Don't budget repairs get it done right.. Best of luck with your grandmother, that's more important here than anything.

Not to be rude but I had a feeling this would happen. Out of all your threads you made (at least 20 in the short time you've been here), I was expecting a final thread like this. :x

Anyways it doesn't look bad at all. I bet if you buy your parts here with patience you could fix it all for less than a $1000 including bumper unless there is some frame damage.

Don't you have your bimmer?

a-spec kit????

Sucks to hear your loss. I wrecked a truck when I was younger. Left work early to clean it up because I was selling it. truck in front of me with tailgate down and straight creamed the guy.

Cost me 1000.00 to fix and I would have made 1g on selling it. instead I broke even. That was the last accident that was my fault 17 years ago.

Hope you get it running right and sorry to hear about your family crisis. Wish you the best of luck on that topic.

Sorry to hear about the damage, at least its not totaled. I am not asain, rather a white american, but my wife is 100% chinese. you guys are correct about the asian parents thing. they are very particular to details, a certain percentage of OCD at times as well.

I just recently loaned my TL to my 26 year old brother for a 900 miles trip from Pittsburgh - Atlantic city. I prob called / tected everydaqy to see what up and was biting my nails and worring a ton during that trip. It came back in one piece. Right now I am in China on vacation and my car is now im my other brothers (37 years old) hands and my dads. I def feel much better about my car being gone since I can trust them alot better. But you cant defend against a hit and run. just drive defensively and park in good spots. ..I cant wait to drive my TL, i miss it soo much....(i saying this while on vacation, whats wrong with me).

my next vacation the TL is coming with me

BMW 528, BMW 328, Acura TL, Lexus ES, Toyota Camry.

And your family doesn't want to scrape up $1000 for the deductible?

Hate to break it to you, but any repair you try to do yourself probably won't end up looking good at all. I was the victim of a hit & run and my mirror and door skin were replaced. If a professional shop that supposedly specializes in Honda can't put a mirror on properly, what makes you think a HS student can?

My advice: Pay the deductible, get it fixed properly, and then lower that deductible. I know it's different for each carrier/situation, etc. but the difference was only $10 or $15 a month for a $500 and $1000 deductible.

A little hard for me to understand why the deductible is set at a number that you're not comfortable paying. My

+1. If you have a TL and a 5 series...

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Now that my dad had calmed down he decided he will pay the $1000 and get it fixed. Its not the fact that he does not want to pay it its the fact why should he pay it since in my parents eyes its my sisters fault for taking the TL when they told her to take her car. Asian households....if your parents tell you not to do something and you do it and then something happens that is not even your fault....your parents will still blame you.

The reason he was angry because he told my sister to take her car which is the 3 series to school and not the TL. The 3 series has over 100k miles and has numerous dings and dents. He rather it happen to a 06 3 series with 102k miles then a 08 TL with only 23k miles.

Haha the 5 series is mine but I don't drive it. I like to baby it. I put alot of miles on it last year over 18k and now it just sits in the garage and only goes out on nice days. No dings no dents except 4 small ones on the rear bumper from someones front plate. The reason I want something cheap to drive to school is so I can't constantly keep worrying and getting paranoid about my car at school. I will most likely keep the TL but I will be even more super careful now. I hate seeing my car damaged....especially when I treat it so nice and keep it clean. I rather drive something cheap to school and then enjoy my cars later on when I am done. The E60 and the TL are both timeless designs and look great. I already had a plan...when I am done with school the TL will be my DD until it dies and the E60 will be a weekend car and the third car will be another weekend car .

I'm Indian and know what you are going through. Everything in life happens for a reason! Who knows, maybe if your sister had taken the 3 it would have broken down and she would have missed her final and failed a course! I'm sure your dad would be even angrier if she had failed a class b/c of the car.

Can you take some more pictures of the bumper and the mirror and how it broke off. You might be able to fix the dents and the bumper and mirror for much less than 1K if the damage is limited to a few sections and save yourself some money and learn more about your car.

I keep my collision coverage deductible high ($1000) but my comprehensive low ($300). My reasoning is, if it's my fault that my car gets messed up then I should have to pay dearly for it. If it's some other jerk offs fault then I shouldn't. Comprehensive coverage is pretty cheap anyways so the price difference is small.

Very glad to hear your dad will pay the deductible. Really, having a body shop repair it is the only way to go in this kind of situation. They're the only ones who can repair it 100% back to normal.
