The TL does relieve stress...

So I have had a crappy week at work. I am a senior systems consultant and I work in NYC, downtown. My commute is roughly 2 hours each way (subway, MetroNorth train and driving). The weather has been awesome here in NY lately. Once I get off the train and hop in my TL, I lower all windows, crank up the Metallica DVD-A and punch the gas, damn that exhaust sounds good. Then I just cruise home and feel much better when I get home.

Just wanted to share this little story since a good amount of people seem to complain about the TL. This car rocks.

Hank

I wish I could drive mine more during the week. My commute is 3 miles and it's all stopping at lights and stop signs. Hardly get above 35 MPH.

A totally random response to this thread, but I agree. I didn't even really care for that album until I played it in the TL. It does rock!

I agree that after having a $hitty day, putting the windows down and blaring some music while hauling down the road is amazing (and quite relaxing)...but a Metallica CD? If it's after the black album, which if it's a DVD-A I'm guessing it is, I hate to tell you, but it sucks. Now since we don't want this thread to digress into a discussion of how bad Metallica sucks now and get it locked or moved to Ramblings, let's focus on how wonderful listenng to loud music in the TL is while flying down the road...

Well.....showing my age here, but the DVD-A of Doobie Bros "Captain & Me" works.......crank up "China Grove" or "Long Train Running" and just cruise!

I agree with the OP. There is no stress relief like stepping on the accelerator on your favorite freeway ramp (preferably empty), getting up to 80 mph on the freeway (also preferably empty) and tossing the car through my favorite turn (definitely preferably empty). I do this at least once every day in my car and enjoy the sound and feel of it every second.

This car still rocks after almost 37k miles (now that my new tires have finally broken in).

I have been teaching school for a long time and the first day of school is always a rather tramatic experience. Yesterday, after the first day I took the long way home and turned up the 60's music on XM. All of a sudden all the stress of the day was mostly gone. Yes I do love the exhaust note too.

Wow, I have the opposite problem. When I first got the TL I was working 3rd shift. It was great driving to work at 11pm. Very little traffic and you could really play around. Now I'm temporarily on 1st shift and I drive both ways in rotten traffic. It's not heavy enough to be bumper to bumper, but it's heavy enough that these damn people just won't get out of my way. By the time I get home I'm full of road rage.

Unfortunately not an option. I don't take any expressways going home. And I have to get around O'Hare airport. There are only 2 roads that go around the airport, the one I take and one that takes me about 3 miles out of the way. And the other road has traffic that's even worse.

I work in IT also and even though my commute isn't nearly as bad as yours, I still enjoy driving my TL after a day at the office. I only live aboue 15 miles from my work but it gives me enough time on the highway to unwind. I crank some U2, put on my shades, and go flying down the highway. And it's such a trip to move in and out of traffic and blow past other "performance" cars like BMW, Mustang, or even a ricer. By the time I get home, I got a big grin on my face and I've completely forgotten what happened at work.

There's a good chance I'll be moving to Chicago in which case, I'll only be driving to the train station and then taking the train to work. Not only does that mean my TL will essentially become a weekend-only car, but now I'll have to find some other way to deal with stress from work. I guess I'll be hitting the weights more than usual after I move. Maybe I'll buy a punching bag.

Yeah 2 hours, only 20 minutes of that is in the TL. Going home that is the last part of my commute, sucks when I hit traffic. Whether it be Metallica or whatever (U2 is my favorite band, but they don't have any DVD-A's), unwinding in the TL is good for the soul

I used to also listen to DVD-As after I got home from work while sitting infront of my house. With the engine off, you really get to hear the high fidelity recordings at their best. That really relaxed me after a long day of word...beside the occasionaly WOT runs on the expressways of course.

Weekend drives to Wisconsin or downstate? Work with me here, I'm trying to help. I am a Chicago native and return annually, traffic and weather suck. I moved!!

Amazon.com has a descent list of DVD-A's, that is where I got the Metallica DVD-A and Blueman Group.
