TL in cold weather
This might be a noob question. Would it be best to let the idle drop a bit before putting it in gear?
It's just easier on mounts and everything to wait but you won't hurt anything if you don't wait.
I did want to emphasize that getting the car into closed loop normal emissions operation as quick as possible is a huge goal for the automakers. Where old carbureted cars had to idle high or they would die, you could start a fuel injected car and have it idle normal without dying.
I let it drop first but my GF turns the key, puts it in gear and guns it quicker than I thought was humanly possible and she's never had issues. in fact, her Murano shoots up to 2,200rpm when cold for the first few seconds.
