TL in the Cold
TL in the Cold
This morning it is 3 degrees! I've noticed a couple things with my TL.
1. The radio "whistles" a bit before the car warms up. Anyone else hear it?
2. Here's the stumper question though --- when it's this cold, I don't feel the grade logic or any downshifting. No pull back. Except for the cold, that's nice.

10 degrees here this morning. It's been pretty cold the last few days and I've noticed the same thing with the radio. There's a definite whistle/hiss while the car is warming. I noticed that if you turn the volume all the way down, or turn the radio off, it goes away. It does go away after a few minutes. This morning I also noticed that the navi screen was flickering a little. Again, this went away after the car warmed up.

yes-- that's what I've noticed. The little hissing, whistling whatever you want to call it coming from the radio goes away after just a couple minutes... not a big deal. I just wonder why. Maybe it's because people and cars aren't meant for this kind of cold!
also, anyone else notice the auto downshifting and stopping is actually SMOOTHER in the cold?

It was -35 below in Princeton Minnesota this morning! Here at work (Elk River MN.) it was only -31 below.
I live in Wisconsin, and it's been in the negatives most of the week. This morning it's -13 with a wind chill of -30. I have an 04 6MT non-navi. I haven't had any whistling from the radio. However the clutch pedal and stickshift have been pretty stiff, as expected.
I'm kind of disappointed with the amount of heat that gets sent to the feet. It doesn't really warm me up that much because it seems the direction of the airlow is closer to the shin on the right leg rather than the feet. Anyone else? Or is my brain finally frozen over!
I'll add that I've been parking outside this week and the TL has started up on the first crank every time.

When it gets into the teens my shifter/transmission doesn't like the 1-2 or 2-3 upshift until it warms up a bit. FWIW I have had this issue with every other manual I have owned.
My TL warms up really fast. I had a Formula Firebird and that thing took forever to warm up. (It did have a 160 degree thermostat)

As per the TL in the cold...my doors dont like to close, but slamming em does the trick.
And when turing it on, theres a weird screech that comes form the engine right when it cranks over. Its loud as hell, but only happens in the cold.....meh?The best part....With the ASpec kit...Im riding with Snow/Ice "mudguards" all the way to the ground!
<---Not really
+1 on the radio refreshing slow but i dont know about shifting, its not auto
must not fully understand how that works eh? :P
- The MID/radio does refresh really slow in the cold.
- 1-2 & 2-3 are almost impossible... (expected)
- Took a few turns to turnover this morning (expected with -20s)
- The rattles/creaks/noises are sooooo much worse in the cold...
But the car does heat up fast though imo...

My car said 14 degrees this morning, and the Tire Pressure Monitor came on for the left front tire. But I checked and all were a little over 25 psi, except the rear left -- which was a little over 15 psi.
It's warmed up about 10 degrees so I'm going to go check again.

Im up in MN and it's -20 below and my car also does both...im guessin its just the cold that's causing it so i don't mind but what bothers me the MOST is having such a hard time closing my stupid door...do you guys have that problem when it's cold?
i would go check since i haven't been outside in like 3 days and my car probably needs me right now but its fucking cold! and i feel like shit. i know when i go out tomorrow and haven't started the car in four days, everything is going to feel like its lagging.
Nice, glad I saw this thread. I also noticed the high pitch sound at first. Mainly coming from the center speaker. Worried me at first, but went away after a little warmup. I also do notice that the engine does grumble/vibrate quite a bit when its cold. I imagine thats also normal for the cold weather, but its also more than my 2002 TL-S did.
My car also make a screech right when it cranks over, but only if it's around 0 degrees. Guessing it's just from the belts being super cold and stiff. The only other thing is the clutch feels Sticky, like it's a little slow coming back up after i push it down. And all the displays are definitely slow. Once the car warms up for a few minutes everything is back to normal.
Why do the displays slow down in the cold? I've noticed this with all LCD displays in the cold. Is it because the liquid thickens in the cold weather, making it slower to move in the display? It almost like fades between screens.
lol electricity actually slows down with temperature??? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!
lmao.... the block heater does work... but you still have to drive the car around to give it some exercise... if you start it up. otherwise its good

interior noise is increased a lot in the cold...it sux.....did anyone see the video where the kid in michigan throws water outof a cup in the air and by the time it lands its frozen??? those are the climates you need block heaters in...
It parked itself right over California!
Go figure, the irony of it all... With CARB (CA Air Resources Board) setting all the trend-setting rules and regulations for emissions for automobiles and beyond, we have been running well above normal temperature-wise for several days this winter. It does get cold in the AM, but it's been 10-20 degrees warmer than normal during the day.
I didn't notice the radio, but shifting was harsh & the screen did take a while to change. (-1 degrees here)
Yeah I definitely agree. I drove my sis' RDX over the weekend and it felt much warmer on the inside although the cabin was a lot noisier than my tl
