TL brake pads last a long time.
My TL is almost 3 years old and I have 45K miles on it and the last time my brakes were checked at around 41K the dealer told me they still have 80% life left in the front and more than 70% left in the rear. I've had my good share for stop and go traffic as well. I've never had brakes on a car last this long. Anyone else?

^^Same here. I have about 47,000 miles & had my brakes checked back in January when the dealer did my B2 service. I wasn't given a percentage but the size/thickness still left on the pads. I was told to expect another 2 years on them which should be around 76,000 - 80,000. When it comes to replace my pads, I will choose OEM one's I have now. Since they lasted this long.

Burning Brakes
Like Bluenoise, I be lucky to even see 50K on my 04 5AT. I have 33k on the odo currently and I am only hoping to get about 40k out of my OEM set. I do about 90% city driving in heavy Boston traffic. I don't autocross or drag my brakes. I guess it all comes down to your driving environment and driving style. As a point of reference, my 97 Camry V6 brakes lasted 53k before I heard the wear indictors. But the TL brakes much better.
One interesting thing I noticed is that the rears are wearing out just as quick as the fronts. That was not the case in my Camry. I wonder if Acura designed it as such or if the Electronic Brake Porportioning system has anything to do with it.

Looks like the 6MT brembo brakes don't last as long as the 5AT standard brakes. But I still wish I went with the 6MT. I kick myself for that decision everyday.

I wouldn't trust what the dealer said. They told me I needed new tires, even though I had brand new tires just installed the week previous. (They later admitted they were making that judgement by miles, not by actually looking at the tires)
Different dealer told my brother in law that his horrible scraping noise was NOT from his brakes, but his suspension. They said his brakes were ok, but that is would cost $1700 to replace the broken suspension parts...
I looked at his car, and found the dealer was lying. His pads were worn down almost all the way to the metal brackets. They most likely wanted to charge him $1700 for a 30 minute brake job. So I replaced his brakes for him in the parking lot, and his noise went away....

where are u supposed to look on the brake to see how much wear is left on the pad? i've seen the service manual diagrams where they show yer suppoed to put a caliper up to it and measure the thickness. i glanced at it with my wheel off but i'm not sure i'm lookin in the right place.

2004, three years old, still on the original front pads at 55.8k miles. My rear pads were replaced at 30-something k miles from premature wear, still unexplained.

Bears Rule!(Well, kinda')
New rotors and and pads on front at 44,500 on a 2004, along with the new tranny, and it's driving wonderfully. No steering wheel vibration. No flutter coming to a stop. Had a few other things done, and it was the best 600 bucks I've spent.

Sounds about right. I think mine went at about 21k, although I do get that confused with when the tires went out.

Just took mine in - front rotors are warped (vibrating). Fronts have 45% of pad left at 48,000 miles, but the rear only have 25% left!! Like someone else said, never heard of the rear wearing out before front.
Replacing all pads and cutting discs in front....4 bills....

I had my car in for service at 9500 miles and on the receipt it said i had 80-85% left on the brakes. I wasn't sure if that's good or not but judging from what some of you're saying, that's pretty good with the 6MT. I try not to do too much heavy braking but obviously, brakes are there for a reason and you use them hard when you have to.

On a visit to the service dept. back at 15,000 miles, they told me my pads were ½ worn. So when the time comes at around 30K, I want to install pads that won't dust up the wheels like the originals.
For those you wondering how to type the ½ character, just hold down the [Alt] key while typing 171 on the numeric keypad.

30 k on my A-Spec pads with lots of meat left. I had warping issues until I did a few emergency stops to smooth them out. I still have issues with squealing from the front pads. The noise went away for a short time after the emergency stops, but it quickly returned. I plan on buying new rotors and pads online and replacing everything instead of cutting the existing rotors.

2004 Auto at 47k miles and my front pad is at 4mm and was told to replace them at 2mm and it should last at least to next oil change or more. An unused pad is 12mm?
Also have some minor squeaking sound at the front when coming to stop and braking slowly , dealer said the rotor was too smooth that causes the squeaking sound.

2004 6MT with 45500. As of 4 months ago (when I got my new tires), the guys said I had probably 50% left.
Maybe I should get a 2nd opinion to play it safe since everyone else seems to get so much less life out of brembo fronts...

Same here. 46k miles on an 04 TL and on original pads. I keep expecting them to need to be replaced, but everything is fine. I'l be trading it with the original brakes shortly it seems.

2004 5AT with about 39,000 miles. I was due for tire rotation, so I asked them to measure the pads: Front 10/32, 9/32 Back 8/32, 9/32.
So I'm showing the same thing, more wear in the back. What are the OEM pad widths (English units)?

At 35K miles on my 04 Accord LX.. the front pads were 7mm thick.
I'm pretty easy on the brakes (apparently).. so I should get quite a few miles out of them regardless of what car I drive.

I believe the brembo's tend to squeak more naturally; however if the squeaking becomes a real problem there is a TSB out (SB#04-019: Brembo Brakes Squeal with Light Application). With such low mileage I may look into that.
I have 26K on my 05 6MT when I took it in for service yesterday and had about 15% left on the front pads ~ 5,000 - 10,000 miles left. Although I drive in heavy traffic in Chicago almost every day, so that may be while I wore the pads down so much..
