TL 6MT Vs. TL Type-S 6MT - Handling

Has anyone noticed the difference in handling performance between the '06 Regular TL 6MT and '07 TL Type-S 6MT? Has anyone made comparison between the two in this regard? On paper the regular 6MT uses "thick"(hollow) anti-roll bar and the Type-S 6MT uses "solid" anti-roll bar. Also the shocks and spring parts are different between the two. I'm not sure about the rest of the suspension. 6MT users only please....

thx.

yup to be honest I dont think they made much of an improvement on the MT suspension. Auto on the other hand is very stiff compared to earlier years.

???... can we keep this with 6mt cars? I'm not talking about the Auto versions. I don't want to start the debate with AUTO suspension vs. 6MT suspension. The true handling performance comes from the 6MT versions. 6MT users only please.

I had an '05 6MT and now an '07 6MT TL-S.

There is a HUGE difference in handling to my seat of the pants. The steering is much tighter and more direct (the first thing I noticed), and the ride is far more controlled (read...stiffer).

The two cars feel completely different. The TL-S feels like it is all of a piece, so to speak. The '05, while still a terrific car, felt a little looser. I'm sure the actual body structure is the same, but the '07 just feels different. Also, the '07 has no rattles, and the '05 had plenty.

It's hard to describe, but if you drove the two back to back, the difference would be very apparent. I can't honestly say I notice any extra power, however.

Thanks, BG74! That was very helpful response. That is a great comparison considering you've owned an '05 6MT and now the '07 MT. I understand what you're describing.

Yea as for the acceleration it should be very competitive since the 0-60 and quarter mile is almost dead on close between the two.

But yea, the handling performance is what I am taking more seriously... Btw, nice looking Type-S you got there.

Anybody else had experience between the two please post....

When it comes time to replace the dampers (shocks) on my 05 6MT I'll probably replace the springs with the 07 TL-S springs and the sway bars also. The Acura OEM prices are not only cheaper than the aftermarket stuff, I also know it will fit and work fine. I also do not want to lower my TL anymore since it barely clears my driveway driving on a angle currently.

My boss has a 5AT 07 TL-S, he keeps raving to me how tight and stiff the handling is, but I have not driven it to compare.

how about a TL Aspec vs the TL-S?

i dont have a manual but have driven both an aspec and non aspec AT and there is a huge difference. so how does the TL Aspec compare to a non-modified Type-S?

I owned an '05 TL 6MT, and traded it for an '07 TL-S A/T, mainly due to knee arthritis.
The '07 feels much more secure and planted.
The '05 seemed to want to get airborne in a curve under power, especially on undulating surfaces.
IMO, the '07 is more refined and confidence inspiring.
BTW, the suspension specs on the '07 TL-S are the same for both 6MT and 5 A/T.

No offenses to anyone, you can't notice the difference, at least I can't, just by occasional driving of the other setup TL....you really need to drive it on daily basis to pick up the key differences. (if there are any)

EDIT:
SPAW1, has a great point, and a good review of his own experience, as he own(ed) both cars...

LSD ( limited slip dif ) alone in th TL-S 6MT (only) is a huge advantage in handling performance

no one mentioned how stiff the type s steering wheel is.. so that may add to the tight feel
