I was talking strictly in gears alone that would handle such speeds. Power required to get to that speed is a whole another story. Yes you would need more power on the TL 6MT to get to 180.

Hey Ruf, how are you? It's been a while since I posted here.

I've just checked out a bunch of posts under "Racing and Competition" and it looks like you've been busy. Good kill

I've been better. But cars are keeping me young. Traffic has become a challenge, I won't run someone if I don't have clear sailing . . too risky otherwise.

It's killing me not knowing how fast I'm running now, but the altitude/weather corrections tool had me listed at 14.23. And that was before a host of mods. I've had my throttle body and TCS body bored out by Kings Motorsports, bored out my intake, added headers and had the ceramic coated, a hiflow CAT and some aftermarket motor mounts. Yeah, hard to believe I ran that time without all these mods.

Anyway, take care.

The TL with a blower on it is noticeably faster and more powerfull that a BMW 550. You are comparing 320 HP at the crank BMW with 320 HP at the wheels supercharged TL. Likely 60-80 HP advantage and the TL is a few hundred pounds lighter. Going that fast would be retarded, you couldn't use the brakes or steering and unless you have some special tires would be about to die.

Also 4th gear is close to 20 MPH per 1000 rpm, so fuel cut off is around 7000 RPM, so about 140 MPH at fuel cut off in 4th. 6th gear is about 30 MPH per 1000 rpm so fuel cut out would be at 210 MPH if you were on the moon with no wind resistance and a removed speed limiter.

I was referring to stock car. If we're talking about modification then all bets are off. There is a supercharge kit for the 545i/550i (by VF engineer and ESS) that produces between 450 - 500 HP at the crank. The only reason I haven't done it because I'm a bit concerned if the transmission can handle it.

By the way, the stock 550i has 360 HP at the crank. My car was dynoed at 298 HP/313 lbft by Mustang dyno (more conservative than DynoJet) and that was before Dinan tune (390 HP at the crank).

I'm also more cautious lately. The local government are so broke these days that they send the cops out everywhere to generate revenue. I don't engage in high speed run anymore, only at stoplight (almost get caught once)

Why don't you take the car out to the track again? I'll PM you when I'm going to Richardson in November. I've got to see your car

Sorry for multiple posts.

According to Dragtimes:
1/4 mile for the TL supercharged: 13.32 sec @ 107 MPH trap speed.

That's on par with the stock 550i.

'04 - '06 all trims: Limited to somewhere ~150 - 155 (at that speed the speedo is a little unreliable).

'07 - '08 TL-S 6 MT: Same as above.

'07 - '08 TL/TL-S 5AT: Limited at ~130 - 135.

'07/'08 AT's changed trannies to one based off of the RL, which is also limited at ~130 - 135.

I've got a problem with the drivetrain . . . could be axles or tranny. There's a vibration/shudder under acceleration. It's not real easy to nail it down without tearing in to it. I'm going to have NAiL05 and some other guys help take a look at it. I need someone to look underneath while someone shifts the gears and listen to it with a stethoscope.

And yes, PM me when you get in town. Hopefully you can make it around the end of the month and join us at Cars & Coffee.
