So, say it's time to get tires to go on your OEM 17" rims...which would you choose?

I've heard great things about the new Michelin Pilot Sport PS2s. My co-worker waiting months to order a set for his BMW M5 and he's been very happy. More info is http://michelinman.com/catalog/tires...tml?source=mid

I refuse to support Bridgestone in any way after the crappy EL-42's they made!!! Besides flat spotting, mine have never been able to ballance, also the tread depth new was never 10/32nds, more like 9/32nds (no one does this), AND they cheaped out on the cross tread, the part used for snow, that is 5/32nds, at that depth, a snow tire would be considered useless!

Way to go BS, you lost me as a customer FOREVER!

I still think Acura has something to blame here, they just refuse to admit it My I35 and the current G35 have EL42s on them and I never had any flat spotting. I notice them on Accords, Maximas and more and yet no wide spread problems. My guess is the combo of the tire and poor suspecsion tuning have casued the problem. I am no expoert, but I bet shock valving and dampening are partially to blame. Sur eI don't like the EL42s and Bridgestone swapped them for LS-Zs for me and even they have some minor "flat spotting" yet no one ever mentions this when mounted on other cars. I had EL42 for 37k miles on my I35 and they were fine.

Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 is better according to www.tirerack.com reviews and also it is cheaper than other tires for stock 17" rims. ($154).

My second choice would be Bridgestone S03 Pole Position. Almost everyone who got them loves that tire but they are more expensive ($182) and they are a bit noisy.

I am surprised that BS EL-42 cost US$165 at tirerack!

Remember, the EL-42's are made in Firestone Factories owned by BS, and the folks at Firestone are the ones who brought you the Firestone 500 (for those who do not remember, this was the precurser to the Wilderness tires, and at the time were replaced via recall with 721's) and then the mother of all tire recall's the Firestone AT and Wilderness AT recall.

Then they put out crappy EL 42 tires that never ballance (forget the flat spots as I said above) and with improper tread depths for an all season tire!

NOTE this is not the case with other EL -42's (those have full tread depths) they just made it handle better at the expense of bad weather traction!

NEVER!

Up until today, the Bridgestone vibration problem didn't bother me too much but because it rained all week, I had been driving my truck to keep the car clean. When I took the car out this morning I have a severe vibration for about 5 miles. I see a set of Michelins in my future. Anyone getting any trade-in value for these crappy tires??

I have owned 3 sets of yokohama's. You get almost the quality of michelin for 1/3 less cost and you don't mail your money to France. One set of yokohama's I had on my 2002 TL-S and they easily performed as well as the Michelins. I have another set on my Sequoia and they are great with incredible tread wear. Discount tire for a while had yokoham making a special tire for sports sedans and I will replace mine with similar equip.

I just put on Falken ZIEX 235/45/17's on Falken Torque 5 gunmetal rims and not only
do they look fantastic but also have NO flatspotting, ride and handling is excellent.
The car looks so much better I'm actually thinking of adding the front and rear
A spec pieces. I'm a kid again..

I replaced my EL42's with Yoko ES100 in 255/40/17. I had them on my Volvo S-80 T6 & loved them. They have a great looking tread pattern & have received very good reviews. At $116/tire, I was able to trade my EL42's with 2K miles on & didn't have to pay much to get a much better looking tire, better performing tire, & a wider, lower profile tire that will help protect my rims. I'm a happy camper! :toothless

Same Here. The Yokos in 255/40/17s have been on my car a couple months. No problem at all. They look great!

Just bought a new set of so-3 pole positions from Bridgestone and i am a bit mixed about the recent purchase. Good news 1st, the handling is incredible ie ramps and just turning street corners. Bad news, the ride quality is down, that is to be expected. But on certain roadways the car tends to bounce a little. Also, when you go over ruts or surface imperfections in the road the steering wheel tens to pull right or left a little more with these tires. I don't find them to be very noisy for a max performance tire. I think a little additional noise is to be expected. I have a 30 day trial with thes tires which I bought in Va. from ntb at a price of 145.00 per tire. Not bad. My second choice would be the goodyears from the list. If anyone has tried them please let me know. Eagle F1 GS-D3. Still trying to determine if the handling outweighs the decrease in ride quality.

Pirelli P-Zero M+S

When I upgraded to factory 18's I opted for the Pirelli P-Zero M+S. I think this tire is worth considering for those looking for an all season tire. My 245/40/18 P-Zero's ride better than my stock Turanza's did. That may not be much of a surprise, but I was expecting some loss in ride smoothness with the lower profile. A smoother ride was an unexpected surprise. In the reviews I read, the Pirelli produced times nearly as quick as the summer tires listed above. I'm sure they wouldn't hold up as well under racing conditions, but I won't be subjecting them to that. Tread life should be longer, traction is great, ride is very good, and the price is pretty reasonable.
