Thumbs up Tire and Rattle Update

I picked up the car from the service department after they worked on the following.

1. Tire vibrations
2. Glove-Box rattles
3. Seat back loose
4. License Plate plugs

1. They replaced the tires, my first impression of the new EL's were that they feel somehow softer and quieter. It was dark so I couldn't see the date on them, the ride is better and quieter and there wasn't any noticable vibration. I need to get her on the highway to see how it really does.

2. They couldn't fix the glove-box rattle so they ordered a new dampner and frame. So for now the box rattles pretty bad. ETA for the parts are about a week, I can't wait, rattles drive me nuts!

3. When I purchased the car the seat back for the driver seat got badly scratched, either by the detailing staff or someone else the night of the delivery. The dealer replaced the panel but after a few days the bottom of the panel became loose, if you hit it hard enough it would hold for a few days. The dealer replaced the clip's which seems to have fixed the problem, time will tell.

4. During my previous trip to the service department I mentioned how nice it would be if they had a set of license plate plugs for the front bumper. They didn't have any but they ordered a set and installed them for me. The only negative about this is the front plate holder left a small scratch on the front of the bumper, it's very hard to see so it should be ok. I'm guessing they didn't charge me for this because I've had to make a few trips to the service department that shouldn't have had to have been made.

Overall a good experience, like last time they gave me a cassette tape made by the mechanic explaining everything he did, a nice touch if you ask me. I'll post an update tomorrow regarding the tires if anything changes.

Keep us posted.... Mine are on the way and I'm still thinking of working a way to just trade them for Michelin's...

Ok, felt good and confident when I got into the car this morning. Made a right turn and opened her up a little and wouldn't you know it, these new tires are just as bad if not &#$%ing worse than the originals!! :banghead:

They do recover faster than the others did but who friggin cares? How damn hard is it for Bridgstone to make an efing tire properly!?!? Man they must be giving these tires away to OEM's for them to continue to use them.

I have to believe that someone at Acura is pissed off and screaming at Bridgstone. So you'd think Bridgestone would make damn sure the replacements fix the problem, hell no, that would be like doing your job properly or something horrible like that.

I need to cool off before calling the service department to tell them there is no way in hell I'm keeping these tires so they can rattle more parts loose in the car. :banghead:

Just cold flat spots or persistant vibration all the way to work?

I haven't got the call from the dealer yet, but I'm thinking to going to Costco and trying to RMA my set as defective and replacing with the RE-730 they have in stock in my size. I don't care if it costs me some $$.

I caution everyone that unless you for sure have some vibration problems, don't replace your tires because it could make things worse.

Mine seem to be "ok" but yesterday I had a chance to really open them up on the freeway. When I drive in the upper 70s mph to about 85mph I get a tingly sensation in my hands. I liken it to pushing a shopping cart through the parking lot of a grocery store. While I don't get the serious vibration associated with the cart pushing, the tingly feeling in the hands that you get while doing that is what I'm feeling. Not really sure why that's the
case either. I know the tire place balanced the tires after they mounted it but for some reason it doesn't feel as solid as it did before.

What sort of vibrations do you feel? Do you get full-on body shakes like a cheap massage chair? Or do you get tingly sensations too like me?

I get the full body shakes then after the tires round out I get the tingles in the steering wheel. I'm calling a few tire shops in the area and replacing these POS's this weekend.

Are tingles "normal" in tires? I can't remember how my other car felt when I drove above 75...

after my cold/flat spots wear off in the morning, these EL42s turn into the smoothest vibration free tires, can't feel the road once they warm up. But for the first 10 mins, lord it's a vibrator on full blast.

I agree that these new tires are the worst tires I have had on a vehicle in a long time. I am looking for new rims and tires, I can't wait to get these off my vehicle. Mine vibrates just for a few minutes when I take off in the morning and then its very slight, but they handle like S**T!

Guess what... I just got a call from my sevice advisor as I was responding to the email. He told me that after reporting to the tire mounting place my "tingling" sensation, they inspected the tires more carefully and found 3 of the 4 to be "bad" -- whatever that means. So now the service manager is working with the factory to figure out what to do.

I asked him to pass on a message to the service manager that I would like some Michelins on the car now to avoid having to deal with this over and over again. We'll see what they do.

Okay, called the tire service company directly. Turns out that the 3 tires that are "bad" wobble back and forth (instead of up and down which is typical with out-of-balance tires). We're waiting for the service manager to decide what to do...sigh.

Just got a call from the Acura survey people. I gave the dealers service a 5 but mentioned how utterly crappy it is that I had to get the same model tires that had issues before.
