Tints!

Okay, since my new car is coming, I just ordered moleskin for the tints... now here are some questions.

I've gotten only one quote so far - $200. Hows that for a price? Never had tinting done, so I have no idea.

Additionally, who from NY dares have tints darker than 70%? What % are your tints? Anyone is free to chime in, just list where you're from, how much you paid, and the % tint that you got.

Thanks!

Whatsup man! I believe I paid about 150 or 160, somewhere around there. I live in Manhattan but am currently staying on Long Island. I went 20%. I have North Carolina plates on my car though and only got attention from Garden City police once and got let off with a "fix it" warning but nothing serious. I never got it fixed and it's been fine since then.

I know that there are a bunch of people here from NY that have darker than 70% tint on their cars. I don't even think that they make 70% tint. I'm from RI and are tint law is NO tint, but I'm going to end up getting a 20% all around.

Wow, thats dark. Thanks for all the input, I think I'm going to lean towards 30% or around there.. might look for another shop, $200 seems like kind of a rip-off. At the same time I want a good job done... anyone else have any advice?

Check out the The Tint Shop in Glen Cove I believe or Big Boy's Toys on Queens Boulevard, that's where I got mine done and the guy did a really good job!

You get what you pay for...around NJ/NYC:

Huper Optik tint will run you around $450

Madico Advanced Ceramic (high definition film) is around $300

Others: around $250

$200, the amount itself is by no means a rip-off, it all depends on what brand of film etc you're getting.

I was quoted $260 at this place and all they carry is 3M tint, which a high quality tint. I don't know though if that price includes moleskin/felt, or even a warranty.

Thanks for your input! As I've never had this done before, I have no idea what to expect with price, so your input is gladly appreciated. The only thing I have to base this on is the prices that preceded this that people have posted... so from there, 200 < 130 makes 200 seem like a ripoff.

I paid $240 for all Windows but the Front Windshield. For me, I thought it was money well spent. I went for the Carbon Window Tint and 35% all around... I will definately get pulled over, since I am in California..

No problem, if you're willing to drive into the city there's a place called The Art of Tint, he does tint work on Lamborghini's, Maybach's, Ferrari's etc.

http://www.theartoftint.com/

He does amazing from what I've heard and have seen on others' cars. He carries the Huper Optik, SunGard and one other brand, all good to high quality products.

Regarding the quote you got of $200, call them back and ask which brand/line of film they use? Also in other parts of the country tint jobs are a good deal cheaper then around here (for whatever reason whether it be supply/demand etc. I'm not sure) so if the $1xx you see are from people in the west/midwest that may have something to do with it.

cornell university police officially hate my car; had 20% all around for a while, then got it down to 50% 2 days ago after 3 tint tickets. cost me $100 for removal and re-tinting.

If you get 70% I dont think it would be worth it. Get at least 35%
This is my car and I have 30% I actually want to go darker now.

Oh man that's not really dark...I was planning on getting Madico Advanced Ceramic all around, the lowest it comes in is 30%...So I guess I may have to go with another line or brand to get something around 20%

pic before tint.. unacceptable

i think this pic represents closer to what it actually looks like.. 10% is too dark for a lot of people, I like it dark, especially with the NBP cops don't tend to mess with you too much in oklahoma unless you have close to limo tint, and that just plain dangerous.

i think any tint makes the car look much better, there are a few that think no tint at all..

Ah. Thanks for all the good input. I'm getting a clearer idea of tint. I guess I'll have to go there and have them show me different shades and such.

Now, for the brand...

what do you people suggest?

Looks like I think 30% will be it.

The art of tint is a nice site, they do some quality work, but I'm in nassau county, close to suffolk... so I'm not really interested in going to the city to get tints.

I'm interested in The Tint Shop in Glen Cove (will check em out tomorrow)
and Rayco 4 in Levittown (really really close)

How long do the tints take? Is it a make an appointment, and wait?

Is it show up and wait? is it drop off the car and pick it up later?

Additionally, besides The tint shop, any reputable places in NASSAU county?

Not very interested in driving into any of the 5 boroughs... would rather keep it close to home.

The sun was directeding into the car so it looks like the tints are light but theyre decently dark. I wanted 5% but some things just dont work out like you want them to.

I got my tint for 250 USD in CA. Its the 3M tint with an life time warranty. There is a 170 USD 3M tint also but it only had a 1 year warranty. So its like if it ever faded or bubbled up on you they will replace it for free of charge. I got 70% in the front and 35% in the back. You would think the mismatch will look bad but all in all if you look on the out side its not bad.
