Tinting help =/

I am getting my 08 TL tinted before the summer ends and I can't decide how dark to go. I have 20% on all the other cars and I want to go darker. I was thinking 5%. With 20% I have no problems seeing outside/backing up. How hard is it to see out of 5% compared to 20%?

I don't care much about the concern of backing up but I am worried about changing lanes on a dark highway. Can you see your mirrors with 5% tint or not if not much lighting is present? That is pretty much my only concern lol.

With 20% on the other cars you can kind of see in and those cars have black interior my TL has a beige interior. What are your opinions?

I have 15% all around and the only problems I have is backing up at night. I see cars behind me perfectly and changing lanes isn't a problem. I know 5% is a lot darker than 15% and i've known people having problems with 5% so i think its all a personal Preference thing. I would say go 15% but if your set on 5% see if you can sit in a car with 5%. Im sure your local shop will have a car there with 5%.

Dooo itttt!

Basically, you will get tired of the cops attention after a while.

I have had two layers of tint before (5% over 5% w/ front windshield tinted 30%) That was when i was 16 though.

My 99 TL had 5% on top of 30% with the windshield 30%.

Now my 05 TL has 15% with windshield 30%...

See the trend.....Lol Keeps getting a little lighter over the years.

I never had a problem driving with my windows that dark. I'm always aware of my surroundings i guess.

I had 5% on all my cars. My TL i had 35% which I didnt like my Mazda now has 15% IIRC. I'm thinking about going 5% but i'm not the only one that drives my car so im kind of iffy on it.

i have 20% on the rears and 35% up front.

sometime in the future i plan on getting 5% on the back and 20% for the front.

as far as worrying about being able to see at night, my back up camera and cree-led reverse lights solves that problem easily

I say 20% is plenty dark enough. But if you want to go really dark than 5% will do it. And if you want to take it a step further, tint the front windshield about 30%-50%.

I have 35%. I like the medium darkness, dislike the fact that it doesn't do much for heat reduction on a hot day. Be careful with really dark tint like 5%. Might draw some attention from the police.

In NY you can't have anything on the side windows LOL. Those of you with 5% how hard is to see? My development has some street lights but once you exit it, the roads are dark without any light since I am on the outskirts of the town.

I'd hate to drive a car that had 5% all around. Made me feel so claustrophobic and was hard to see out even in the daylight. Lowest I'd do is 20% all around. Current setup I have is 35/20

Whatever you get, get it consistent on all 5 panels. I think super dark in the back and semi dark in the front just looks bad.

I have 35% all around, not too dark, not too light

I'm so used to dark tint that I almost find it hard to drive the TL because it's so damn bright all the time. My truck has 2.5% on the front windows and doubled up 2.5% on the back windows with a 6 inch 2.5% strip on the top of the windshield. I love it but the cops don't. I have gotten 2 tint tickets to date so keep that in mind. You gotta pay to play

Go 5% bro, you won't regret it trust me, i have had 5% on all of my cars, first it keeps the creepers from staring into your car, second it looks sooo good imo...and 3rd it's not that bad at night, most of the time i had absolutely no issues. The only thing i was sketch about was sometimes if it was pitch black and i was maneuvering around corners while backing up around curvy driveways...nothing a pro can't handle showing his skills.

Cops will pull you over immediately. I won't risk tickets over that. I have never get a ticket and not planning on one. Don't tint them more, 20% is enough. At least here in nj you can't tint them in those percentage. Lucky you if you haven't been stop yet.
You can tint any percentage on the back thou, just dint do it too much on front, remember that a cop needs to see you.

I have 35/20 and I regret it. The only reason I got it like that was because in VA the law says 50/35; so I did the front lighter than the back to hopefully keep cops away (can't necessarily tell with the naked eye)

I wish I got 20% all the way around. My tint is all scratched up and I will be getting it retinted in the coming months with 20%

5% is ridiculous and IMO unnecessary. Not worth the risk of cops/backing up. Regardless though you should get HID reverse lights or at least LEDs if you havent already. that should hopefully help

I have 35/20(?) and I like it. Rears were done by the prev owner and the tint guy said it looked like limo tint. I didnt want to pay to remove/reapply the rears so i just paid for 35% fronts. I'm happy with it.

Also, the interior color will affect how dark it looks. A tan interior will make 35% look lighter than a black interior with the same tint.

At certain angles, it looks pretty damn dark:

I have 20% all around on mine. Its dark but not super dark.

I would just be careful with the laws in your state, there is a big noticable difference in 15% and 5% in my opinion.

depends what you like, i personally like dark windows so on my TL i have 10% all around and 35% on the front windshield. on my old Yukon i had 5% all around and 35% on front windshield. if you plan on doing the windshield do not go darker than 35% because you will have problems at night. as far as 5% goes at night you will need to roll down the windows when backing up in order to see your side mirrors since you wont be able to see much out your back window. another thing is be ready for tickets if you go darker than the legal limit....... its already a routine for me lol.
