Tinting Blues...

Hi all,

This is starting to get a little depressing, I really want to get the windows
of my 05 TL tinted.

Problem 1: I can't find a local source for the "moleskin" and the local
glass dealers don't want to special order a roll from CR Laurence.

Problem 2: The nearest town of any size is Lexington KY. I have had several
conversations with tinters and they do *not* want to pull the doors and
apply moleskin ( assuming I can ever find some...).

Anyone know any place in KY that can do a good job ( I would
guess Louisville and Cincinnatti might be the best bets...

Jerry

Well, if no one wants to put on the moleskin, then why not just inquire about their respective "warranties". By chance, one of them might offer some sort of period (perhaps a year after the date of purchase) against peeling, scratching, etc... Thus, if you do encounter problems without the moleskin, you're going to get them almost immediately would be my guess.

Just a thought...

This might help....looks like some tint shops are not applying the moleskin but rather cutting back some of the trim.

***** used to sell a kit with instructions for $25 as an official vendor. I don't know if he is still a member on the forum cause he was selling his TL. You may be able to PM him if he's still active. The mods should know and mods I apologize if I messed up. Edit as needed.

edit by mod Ron A:
He is still a member but he is not a vendor. I checked with smitty about this, even though I knew what he would say, and we are not allowed to refer people to him, since he is selling the stuff and he is not a registered vendor. I have sent him a PM and asked him if he is still selling and if he plans to be a vendor again, and I will let you know when I hear from him.

Update: ***** replied to my PM and said he is interested in becoming an authorized vendor so he can sell moleskin again. He said he would contact smitty and get the negotiations under way.

I will update as things develop.

I just purchased the $25 kit. It took me a whole 1 hour to install (taking off the door panels too). I suggest you do it yourself. It is extremely easy. There is only4 screws to remove from each door panel and it takes all of 2 minutes to to put the felt on the rubber gasket which comes right out and goes right back in in 10 seconds. It is real easy.. Just be careful when removing the panels. start from the bottom letting the rivets pop out and work your way up. I grabbed onto the storage compartments and pulled slowly until they popped out. The guy selling the kit gives you instructions too. IMO, you are paying alot for the $25 kit, mostly for the instructions. the felt is already precut to the sizes of the windows. If I can help, let me know...
