Tint and your thoughts about it...
Tint will also give you awesome wheels, aspec hit, ATLP base exhaust and among other cool looks. Without the tint, it will look like stock again. Try it
I have been on the fence about tint. I like the looks of it, but am worried about effecting GPS/SAT sensitivity; having to deal with the moleskin; issues with the rear defroster and what not.
Are there any specific types of tint to avoid? I know the quality of the install as well as that of the tint is a big factor. Anyone have any issues or tips based on experience with tint?

I don't have navi so I can't help you there but I have no issues with my rear defroster.
Some people say that radio reception is affected but I believe that's with a certain type of tint. I haven't experienced that problem.
Sorry I can't help much more

My ASM Type S was in tint shop about 18 hours after I bought it. I had never tinted a car before, but now I'll probably never go without again.
I used 35% ceramic tint, no issues with radio or GPS.

I did 35% in the front and 20% in the back. It totally changed the car, for the better! At the minimum get a setup like mine. 20% all around would probably be ideal. I just didn't want to chance getting increased heat for 20% front (50% is the legal limit in my state)
Surprised moleskin/felt has been briefly mentioned. How many of you guys are using something to protect from scratching?
I have 20% all around but still haven't put felt/moleskin on cause its dead winter. I have only used my driver window a couple times but I'm so anal I think I'm convincing myself its getting scratched

get the moleskin. everyone who seems to fail to get the moleskin...inevitably gets scratches on the tint.
usually its the cheap dyed metallic tint you NEED to avoid (this will turn purple and interfere with your electronics). if the price is too good to be true...the product may not be that good. ceramic tint is better for sunny states that get HOT (heat rejection is very good). non-metallic hybrid type tint will give you decent heat rejection without a high price sticker (essentially the middle ground tint if ceramic is at the top end, and dyed metallic on the cheap end). gather your info (pricing, product), find a good installer, then google the info on the product, reviews etc, and then decide.
you have TL, not a civic...so quality and a good installer at good value...is your best bet. good luck.
I was thinking of change my tint. It came with 35% up front and the back are 5%. I have no problem seeing through the back windshield. Also I like that the back is that dark (sometimes your car is the only place to have a party with your female friends XD). However, I thought about just changing the fronts to 20% or maybe just do 15% all around. I have seen some of the pictures on here but it would be better to see them in person and at night.

In Houston, they changed it from 35% to 25%. so we are allowed by law to go darker.
Hey heard your ride was in the shop getting fix. What you hit?
Another thing, good tint shops should ask if it's okay to do minor cutting on the back quarter windows. It won't affect anything but it will prevent that 'bar' looking area that you see on Guiltyox's tl.

I mean, there are multiple windows so I suppose tint could be plural but it just doesn't sound right. lol
I wonder if anyone goes into tint shops and says, "Yes, I want tints." Haha.
That being said, TINT FTMFW!
Am I the only person who doesn't like Tint? I've never had it and probably never will. I just gives Police another reason to harass. My wife's RDX has tint on the rear windows, but that was from the factory.
Judging from the state you live in, tint would be more of a cosmetic thing, rather than a logical one for my geographical location. When the summer rolls around here, its 102-105F with 100% humidity. Even if you park in the shade, your car is blistering hot. Its not an exaggeration when I exclaim that if you had no tint and parked your car in the sun, you'd put burns on your skin....easily (not sun burns either).
But yes, I like the aesthetics of the tint as well, :-D.
Thanks everyone for the info and their experiences. No, I definitely would not "cheap out" on the tint install. This is one of those things it is worth putting the money into and having it done right. The more information I have going into it, the better I'll be able to recognize a professional place and good quote.
Wasn't trying to take a shot at you I promise lol. But I was actually referring to your rear quarter windows- the small ones in the back that don't roll down. The seal for the window is a bit oversized and prevents the tint from covering the entire glass. The part that isn't covered is lighter than the tint, so there's basically a strip of window with no tint.
The seal can be trimmed slightly to allow the tint to cover the whole small window, leaving no 'bar' of untinted glass.
This is how it should look: https://acurazine.com/forums/showpos...3&postcount=16
If they don't ask you, you should ask the shop to make sure they trim the seal to prevent a gap on the small windows.

That's all that matters! Sorry for jacking thread op!
I have 15% Front and 13% Back, i always like tinted windows cuz it give you a bit of privacy and that mysterious look of the car,
another good thing about tinted window is that i can take a nap in my car without worrying about being too hot since it blocks most of the UVs and heats(that protects your dash and leather too).....i think it's overall a good thing

My state wont let me legally tint 20% either....you just gotta find a friend in the business, or someone willing to do it for a cash only/no receipt job. Also, 20% is fairly safe from tickets...I've had 20% tint for about 5 years and never received a ticket on EITHER coast I lived on for it.

I started my mods this wknd. I ended up doing 5% in the back w/20% in the front. WDP w/Taupe interior. The back looks great at night...but during the day it looks a bit lighter b/c of the light interior. I love it though. Installed my smoked rear side markers and debadged the back end too.

I wish paying for tint would have covered all of those bases. I would have a lot more money to my name.
