I've been searching myself for a good tint shop. I found one guy that looks like he knows what the hell he's doing.

www.solarsolutions.com

its located in Bedford which is new hanscomb airforce base. he quoted me $180 for carbon based SunTek with an extra $15 per door for moleskin install. You can do the moleskin yourself for about $5 if you go to www.empirepao.com and order there $5.00 10foot roll of moleskin.

I'm an accountant so my schedule is crazy right now and probably won't get a chance to get to the tint shop until the spring. If you go there or if you find another shop that works out well please let me know and post here for otheres.

Good luck!

FYI - i spoke to the owner and mentioned acurazine.com if you are going to go to them we can probably go together and get a discount. he does a lot of work for the g35 forum and some of the bmw forums. Any others interested in a group by at solar solutions in bedford, ma please post here so we can organize something

Last I heard tint king was cutting the seal as opposed to installing moleskin. You may want to check. I'm looking to so I'm interested to see where you end up going.

Spoke to the owner of solar solutions this morning. He's willing to do a group buy if you guys want in. He definitely knows what he's talking about and has done several 3G TLs before. Who would be interested. No commitment as of yet I just need a head count to get pricing.

We'll consider this a small, local group buy, and will exempt it from the usual group buy rules and requirements.

I went to DayStar tinting in Saugus 781-231-3933 he did a great job, and I think it was $180 he will do it either at his shop or will come to you if you have a garage for him to work in.

Thanks Ron A. Hopefully enough interest is shown so we can get a good deal and a good tinter.

I'm going to give Sheldon a call tomorrow. He owns the shop. I'm sure we can work something out with him to get it done after you recover. I'll see if he can cut us a deal and I'll mention some people can't get their cars done until the spring and see what he says. He seems like a good guy so I'm sure he'll pull something together.

Side note:I'm an accountant and as you may guess I'm busy as hell this time of year so I can't get out there anytime soon either. Although I hate this time of year I do not envy your knee surgery. Best of luck in your recovery!

Question

I would be interested depending on couple of things..

I looked at this guys website for pictures of the TLs he has done, it seems like he doesnt do the little windows on the rear doors right. If you zoom in at the pic below u will know what i am talkin about. http://www.solarsolutionstinting.com...a/IMG_0348.jpg

Also I am not sure how 35% will look with quartz interior. Does anybody have any pictures? If 35% is too light for quartz, i am not going to get it tinted. What do you guys think? Just looking for ideas..

When I call Sheldon today I will raise the question abou tthe quater panel being done correctly and the moleskin being installed correctly (2 seperate strips to keep functionality).

MA legal is 35%. You can tint to whatever you want though but you'll risk a ticket. 35% is plenty dark enough for me but its far from limo black. if you got with 20 your asking for a ticket but you could probably get away with 30. my last TL I had 32% as it read on the tint light meter and I never had a problem.

I'll post sheldons response this afternoon. Thanks everyone

JRock... Count me in too. I was planning on waiting until closer to spring, but if he's offering a good deal I will have it done sooner. And yes, please make sure he is aware of the quarter panel issue.

Thanks!

Will do zoostation. I spoke with someone in the shop a few moments ago. They agreed to shut the shop down on a Saturday so we can have the windows done. Sheldon will be calling me back around 4pm today with a price list. I also requested to have Bruno, the tint guy, call me to discuss how they will be applying the moleskin and ensure correct application of the quarter panel and 3rd break light. Just keeping everyone posted.

THE MORE PEOPLE THAT JOIN THIS LOCAL GROUP BUY THE BETTER!!!!

Definitely 100% go to Tint King. They did change from doing the moleskin to cutting the seal (or whatever it was). I had purchased the moleskin, so I had them just install that. It was $275 or $280. Absolutely perfect. I drove for over an hour to go there. I wouldn't go anywhere else.

The quote I got at Solar Solutions is $240 with moleskin. FYI you should always do moleskin. Tint King is known for cutting the seals which allows dirt, sand etc in the door. This results in more wind noise and obviously is not what the manufacturer intended as protection for your windows. If any tinter cut seals without notifing the customer I would demand they be replaced free of charge.

You should check on the 35% being legal. I had my windows done by Tint Pro in Fairhaven (2 cars actually) and was told that the legal limit in Mass. is 45%. They did a great job by the way.

I checked on this myself. It occurred to me that I may be able to find this on the Registry website, and it is in the FAQ section. I'm in error here (and evidently got a bum scoop from the tint shop). The legal limit is 35%.

Yes, the legal limit is 35%....but since our windows are slightly tinted from the factory...if you use 35% film....a tint meter will read 28% or something...thats why if you want to meet the legal limit..tint shops recommend using 50% film...which makes the tint meter read right around 35%

True, MA limit is 35%, but you first need to ask what's the actual percent on the 35% tint (if that make sense). The 35% tint could be more like 36-39% to compensate for the tint on the OEM glass (windows). I have "35%" on my TL and passed inspection last month at 34-35%. It actually went back and forth from 35 to 34%.

That's true, just had it done a few months ago. No noticeable problems w/o the gasket.

Tint King as of a few months ago was $250 tint (35%) + $40 to remove the gaskets.
