Tint scratches

Hi all!
Does anyone have scratches in their window tint?? I didn't notice them until just recently. They are on the driver's side window, from the door lock over about 1 inch. Very deep scratches all the way up the tint and a few are starting all the way across the window towards the front of the window. There are few appearing on the passenger side and I assume they will get worse with use. I talked to the dealership but of course it's an after market problem. They told me they are telling all of their customers to not tint their windows and that the new design does not allow for tint....the clearance is too narrow. What a bunch of crap!!! Has anyone else heard this? I can't imagine my car without tint!!!

Hopefully you went to a tint shop that has a lifetime warranty on tint like I did. Get it replaced every 6 months or so. Oh yeah, I just have a lil 4 banger CL.

This is one topic that has been discussed too many times to count. The installation and use of moleskin/felt on the inner wiper blades has been the recommended fix by forum members. There was one post where the installer just removed the wiper blade to prevent such an occurence. At any rate, those who have installed moleskin are very happy with the results (no scratching).

Tint scratchs

When I took my TL back to the tint installer, he knew exactly what I was talking about. Seems I was the first TL he tinted back on Feb '04 but since then he had done several and had the same complaints from others. I should mention this is tinter that's been in the same location for 15 years and has tinted several of my vehicles so I trust him.

He told me that the problem is clearance inside the door panel where the panel actually has rough edges that catch the window tint and scratch it! He said this is not uncommon stating that is has been a problem in other makes as well (Mercedes). He even stated that he was seeing the problem on '04 Accords.

His solution was to remove the door panels and lightly sand down the edges on the inside and replace the scratched tint. He charged me extra ($40) for this but he said he would not replace the tint otherwise. He did guarantee the new tint and said it would fix the problem (or he would replace the tint). Well, since then three of windows are totally clean but the driver side front has some small scratchs. I just have not got around to taking it back to get this last window corrected.

Hope this helps....

Your tinter has been smoking crack for 15 years. The rubber wipes are the only thing that rubs the glass on the inside, and that rubber is smooth already. The problem is, dirt gets caught there and then scratches the tint. Moleskin felt is not a cure, merely a long lasting bandaid. Why would someone sand down rubber? Who's your tinter?
