Tint Scratch Update
Tint Scratch Update
Well about 4 months ago I had my windows tinted without moleskin. About two weeks later I noticed horrible scratches on my front windows. Took it back and my tinter replaced them free of charge. Now two months after that, the scratches are back and they just keep coming. I called the tinter. He called the tint company, and the tinting company said that it does not fall under manufacturs warranty becuase it is a flaw in the TL make of wiper blades. The company claimed they have been getting complaints left and right regarding the TL's. The tinter called Acura as well and they gave him some story. I am friends with the tinter and he always likes to help me out. He said to try the moleskins and he will do the tint for $20 a window. I thought the was a nice suggestion becuase I do want to pay him for his time. Usually it is $35 a window. Should I do the moleskin or is it just a waste of time to try to solve this matter?
No scratches with moleskin
It's been two months since I got my windows tinted with moleskin, and while I don't have any scratches, I can count on one hand the number of times I've rolled the windows down.
coop, there are numerous threads regarding the use of moleskin. The members who have it installed are very satisfied with the results and are convinced the moleskin has prevented scratching. Some have also said it wasn't required and have had no problems with tint scratches. Whether or not Acura is aware of the problem, I don't forsee a "fix" for it. For a couple of $, Acura could have installed this product eliminating future problems.
yes, do the moleskin. i took no chances with mine as i wanted it done right the first time w/no hassles. my tint is perfect, had it installed over a month ago...i keep this mentality whenever i think of doing some modification to this car, take no chances and do it right it's your investment...
Yes, have him put the Moleskin on there, but there is a special way it has to be applied. If he doesn't do it properly, your tint will keep getting scratched. BTW, the scratches are coming from debris (like dirt) on the blades. Also, the blades are usually pretty tight, you should have him pull them out a bit.
