Timing belt kit from Amazon

Is this the kit to use?
Timing Belt Kit Acura TL V6 2004 to 2007 : Amazon.com : Automotive Timing Belt Kit Acura TL V6 2004 to 2007 : Amazon.com : Automotive

The honda dealer is going to charge me 550 to do the timing belt and water pump. But if I buy the kit and take it to my local mechanic It would probably be a little cheaper.

I'm interested in this too. I've got about 15K before I need to get mine done.

Edit: Just realized I've put 35K miles on my car in a little under a year.

With all due respect to the OP, there are several options other than the link posted which will be lower cost.

Gates kit which several users have installed:

http://www.amazon.com/Gates-TCKWP329-Engine-Timing-Water/dp/B001NYE26U/ref=sr_1_2?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1369059868&sr=1-2&keywords=timing+belt+kit http://www.amazon.com/Gates-TCKWP329-Engine-Timing-Water/dp/B001NYE26U/ref=sr_1_2?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1369059868&sr=1-2&keywords=timing+belt+kit

Or this kit by AISIN, which is has parts that are all made by the same manufacturers as OEM. It's out of stock from Amazon at the moment, but I bought this for $160.

I was just pricing the same thing. Ill be really thinking about buying one of these 200-2500 kits. As long as the bearings are Koyo they are the same as OEM! Its the water pump and tensioner I question.

Tons of threads on this. The Gates kit is all OEM except for the water pump. I have 30K miles on the Gates kit with no issues.

OP, $550 is not a bad price at all for parts + labor, including water pump and tensioner...

550 was parts only, no labor. +1 on gates. Ill get the belt and pulley kit and just buy an OEM water pump.

Its not necessary but I have done over 30+ timing belts over the years and have had 2-4 aftermarket pumps fail... and 0 OEM.

Well I went to the honda dealer for my "$550" timing belt and water pump job with my coupon. Let me clarify. I had a coupon for $499 water pump and timing belt. But on the phone the guy said the water pump was a little extra. It ended up being $99 extra. So it just jumped up to $599. I dropped off the car anyway but added on a transmission fluid change also. Two hours later I get a phone call saying my tensioner was on its last leg and if it breaks blah blah blah.. Okay fix it, thanks. The guy replies well while we are here might as well replace your ac belts it only $8. Okay do that too. An hour later they call me again.. your engine mounts are all broken.. you want us to replace them? I say how much, they want $1300...lol no thats okay.." oh well you car is done other wise. I go pick it up and boom, the bill was $919!!! I like " Ummm excuse me how the hell did a tensioner and $8 ac belts take it to $919.. well the belts is $8, but the labor is $40..The tensioner was $127 but the labor was $80.. WHAT!! they bent me over big time.. but on the good side Im good on the timing belt, tensioner, ac belt, water pump, tranny fluid is red with no metals or grit, and a free car wash lol

Thats how it works, you get in the door for 599 and then they find another 500 while they are in there. Classic dealership.

I'd still go for the AISIN kit from rockauto. All OEM parts without the Honda name on them:

https://www.rockauto.com/catalog/mor...456&cc=1429130

$193.79 + shipping.

Not at Hamilton Honda in NJ. They told me up front to replace the hydraulic tensioner because they said almost all are found to be leaking by the time you get to do the Timing belt job. In my case at least, they turned out to be right. The whole job was just under $500 OUT THE DOOR including parts, labor, and tax.

I'm sure this will come as no surprise, but the replacing the tensioner is literally 2 or 3 bolts once you're in there. The AC belt has to come off and be put back on whether it gets replaced or not, so the $120 in labor is essentially pure profit.

The practice of quoting a repair cost without giving labor charges really pisses me off. Obviously they don't quote them because they are ripping people off.

I installed the AISIN kit this weekend...it is indeed identical to the OEM parts, same manufacturer and everything. Paid $160 shipped from amazon!

I didn't do the valve seals since they weren't leaking...now that i've done the timing belt I'm confident I can go back in there to change the seals if they leak in the future. Others do recommend it though...

Here's what I replaced last weekend:

AISIN timing belt kit (TB, water pump, tensioner, idler)
OEM spark plugs
Thermostat
OEM or Goodyear Gator AC drive belt
Gates AC belt tensioner and pulley (i had some noise from the old tensioner and it's easy to replace once you have the car apart for the TB job.)

Also if you haven't done it recently I'd suggest replacing/inspecting:
Power steering fluid
Transmission fluid
Engine oil and filter
Brake fluid
Air filter
Cabin filter
Rotate tires

I also replaced the seals in my power steering pump and changed the transmission filter (only possible on '04 - '06)

I figure I'm good for a while now...maybe I'll try doing a valve adjustment next year if I feel ambitious.

Just checked. Amazon's price is $155.64 shipped. Sounds like a deal to me! I bet if you called rockauto and asked them to match that price they just might.

For some reason this kit is really cheap now.

Amazon says it went down 43% in price since I added it to my Wish List (when this thread was created).

You are mistaken it is NOT all OEM. Only the tensioner, & pulleys are OEM (and maybe the belt). Honda water pumps are made by Yamada, not Aisin.

http://www.oemacuraparts.com/oem-par.../19200-rdv-j01
OEM ACURA WATER PUMP (YAMADA) for 2005 ACURA TL | Part number 19200-RDV-J01

Also, almost all Honda timing belts are made by Unitta. Espeically the high performance ones. Unitta is just the name Gates uses for it's Asian market.

On Aisin kits, tb brand is mitsubishi... Is this oem? I read that Gates/Unitta is oem ... Why people keep buying Aisin kits instead of Gates kits? Gates kits oem on everything except Water Pump.

Is this a good option

Buying Aisin kit plus only gates timing belt on Rockauto... So, you'll have oem tb, tensionner, etc. And I read here that Aisin water pump was oem on the earlier built TL so it will make all oem?

My dilemma is wich one is better?

Just my 2 cents, while I appreciate and share your desire to get the best possible parts at the lowest possible price, I can tell you either kit will be fine. There are members here using gates without issue...I'm using the Aisin kit without issue. Honda/Acura uses several OEM manufacturers so you can and will drive yourself crazy trying to match everything up.

When I took the parts off my 2004 TL, the brand and stamping of every part in the Aisin kit except the TB itself were identical to the OEM. The TB was high quality and I have no doubt it's every bit as good as the OEM belt.

Try not to over-think the parts list...just think about how much money you're saving instead!

From the Amazon site, "Original equipment matched idler and tensioner bearings"

Does that mean the TB tensioner, hydraulic tensioner and idler pulley?

Yes, both the Aisin kit and the Gates kit have identical parts. The only difference between the two are the timing belts and water pumps.
