Time for the Timing Belt!!!

Well, my 04 has 87K on it now.

I haven't gotten the A4 service indicator yet, but I figured I should do it anyways. I got a coupon in the mail for the local Honda dealer to get the complete timing belt service (water pump, tensioner, coolant, etc...) for $699. I'll have the plugs changed also for an additional $99.

Do you guys think this is a good deal??? I might also do a Trans flush and get a full detail. I figure the TL needs some love. We got my wife a 2009 V6 RAV4 Limited in Feb 2012, and I have literally put 2.5K miles on my TL since we got it.

Next is 15mm back spacers before my little guy comes in Sept!!!

sounds like a good deal. DIY on the plugs and trans fluid to save yourself some money. both are easy and have good writeups in the 3G garage

and spacers are a must with the stockies.

Agreed. Plugs aren't that bad. Even for a novice. $700 isn't the best deal in the world, but I'd take it if it came my way (and I needed a timing belt change of course)

sounds like a a good price for a dealer. i'd pass on the dealer detailing your car unless you like swirls on it.

Reccomendation is 7 years or 105K. The time piece is, has and will continue to be heavily debated on this site, but is Acura's recommendation.

$700 is the best deal beside Hamilton Honda deal.

I had my 105K service done in Maryland while on the road for work for $753 out the door with no plugs. Im not a mechanic and did the plugs myself, but you have to take off the sway bar.

actually no it's not. the OM says 105k/MID 4. someone spoke with acura client services and they said 105k/MID4. dealers say 105k/MID4 or 7 yrs. resident acura tech says 105k/MID 4 or 7 yrs.

so...the debate continues.

FYI: the 2G TL has the 105k or 7 yr rule, but NOT the 3G in their repsective OM.

You may be right. I just checked both my Owners manual as well as the Service Manual I have. Both do say when sub menu item "4" is displayed on the MID.
I haven't gotten anywhere near that mileage or age on either of the two TLs, I've owned. I did have the TB changed on both of my old Accords, nether of which had a MID. I went by dealer's recommendation and on my 94 Accord, I didn't get it changed until about 85K and nearly 9 years. I will likely need to have the TB changed on the Mrs. MDX as we roll up a lot of miles on it.

Definitely an item that brings spritied debate.

My local Acura Dealer where I bought the car (Rosenthal Acura in Gaithersburg for you Marylanders) wanted $1245 for the TB service pack and $1536 for the 105K service with plugs.

The honda dealer (Criswell Honda) said they use honda parts, and is $500 cheaper so I'm going with them. I will probably do the plugs myself with a buddy.

I totally hear you guys on the time debate. I figure better safe then sorry. I was on the fence, but have decided to keep my TL for at least 2 more years (was thinking some sort of brand new hatchback... maybe a 4-door Golf R, or CPO ZDX). Given this, I'll sleep better at night with the TB service done. I can't imagine what it would cost to fix it if it snapped, with an interference engine like the TL's. OUCH!!!

I just got the timing belt package done 2 weeks ago at 110k miles. I thought $798 was a good deal.

Very good deal. Go for it! Hamilton Honda is $497 OTD with tensioner. This deal includes coolant and "etc" for only $200 more. Still hundreds less than most dealers...
