This is going to look gorgeous but I am worried about the light output.
The TL has such a great cut off as is I can't imagine it staying that great.

Up until the other night I didn't think I was gonna be all that impressed with the Acura jewel eye LED's. I have driven next to a couple at night and just didn't see impressive output. Maybe it was the conditions that didn't do them justice, but the other night I was sitting outside on break at work and someone pulled in with their new MDX. I watched the output on the road as well as the cutoff on walls as it turned. It looked AMAZING! Very nice output. I still wouldn't say it blows a quality HID projector out of the water, but it looked nice nonetheless.

Wow all this anticipation about reading this thread makes me smile with excitement! Definitely in for the final product, also some pics about the process, what mods to the housing, etc. would be greatly appreciated! This is epic to say the least. I think i might have to do this

I've seen this on FB the last few days. Definitely a different look idk if I like it or not yet. I've learned to never judge retrofits until they're on the car.
I wonder if they would be willing to post a build thread for these headlights either on Azine, or HIDp, i'd be interested to see how they mounted them inside the headlight and what they're using for adjustment.
Looking forward to install pics.

^ I can let you know that even I wont be told. Ive been informed that the customer doesn't want people to know and I respect that. Its a one off customization and a job well done. I am skilled in this area and have a great idea of how I plan to make it all work. Depending on the level of difficulty (which ive been told is TOUGH) I might not share either. But I will definitely post pics

The heat sinks are huge on this thing, and with these LED's heat dissipation is always the rate limiting factor. I'd like to know how you are working that into the retrofit? The way I see it is ... the jewel eyes themselves will fit, but the heat sinks are monsters on these things. How have you tackled that problem? Without good heat dissipation I would fear that they won't last long at all.

Glad to see you are tackling this wojo! The idea was discussed on another threads and there were plenty of skeptics. I knew this could definitely be done. Perhaps on a stock base TL it would look odd. But on a modded out car like yours, it is gonna look amazing! I think you are going to start a new fad here.
Hmmm should I do this too? hee hee.

would be nice to see on the TL, but I just don't see how this is much better than a good set of projectors with HID. I've driven next to an MDX at night and my factory HIDs still blow it out of the water. LEDs seem to be more a cosmetic upgrade more than anything. light output is about par with a common HID unit and nowhere near a more high end/upgraded HID unit.
but hey, props for being the first.

This jewel eye is auras look now. It's not about output it's about sporting the Acura signature and it looks dope.

The benefit is the LED itself...
They run cooler and consume less energy. I believe I read the cutoff is "better" according to Acura but I'm not too sure...
Ahh, here it is...

Better light dispersion and a wider spread basically.

Same in the US, both the Touring and Hybrid Touring get the LED headlights. But just 2 modules as shown, the Acura jewel lights are a full array.
I don't feel like the MDX lights are pricey at all for $500, being that the vehicle is pretty new on the market. When ideas about retrofits were tossed around I dismissed it thinking it would be cost prohibitive and easily cost $2000+, forget physical feasibility. (that's what some Accord owners are paying to put in 2013/14 LED lights.)
Some people don't mind spending $200 on quality HID bulbs. So $500 for OEM quality cutting edge LEDs makes this a mod that some will find worth paying for.

Good luck with the retro.
I acquired a set of these last year when MDX first came out to try to retro them into the RL or the 3G TL, after seeing how much work was involved I coudlnt go through with the retro.
the retro is possible but you'd need serious patience, dont try to knock it out in one day or a weekend. Retros like these take weeks if not months to accomplish or at least accomplish in a way where they are aesthetically pleasing and functional still.
Here are a few pointers
- You can cut the back side of the headlights wide open but would have to make a custom housing in order to keep everything enclosed. One way around that is to cut the back side from the MDX headlights and then put the back side together with the TL headlight housing, this may sound crazy but the best way to approach this retro.
- Another option. Replace the MDX LED heat sink with custom made heat sink to fit the TL headlights. For this serious CAD and CNC skills are required as you can imagine but a good machine shop could guide you towards the right direction.
- Make sure to some how incorporate horizontal and vertical aiming. The way the LEDs are orientated on the MDX body they point a bit inward, the TLs headlights are more angled and would require the LEDs to adjusted a bit inwards.
To sum it all here is a shamless plug, PM me if you want to buy a set of complete MDX headlights that are sitting with me collection dust
