I have %5 on my cl(white) and countless stops/tickets. It's not a color thing, they get alot of arrests that stem from the original stop for tinted windows.(straight from a cops mouth)

what happens if you get a ticket more than once? subbuzz did your ticket charges increase the more times you were pulled over for your tint?

Hmm....well I think I might get the front windshield tint just so that I can keep my car 100% cool for a few hours in the summer. =D

Actually, I have 50% and they're noticeable in the night time, looks pretty good actually.

hahah really? Here in LA I have a NHB / Black interior and I think that's actually helped me out because the cops just assumed that the entire thing is too dark

Do you have navi? If so, do you ride with it on? I have 5% front and 10% rear. I find that when i have the navi/audio screen on, it helps to lessen ( only a little) the effect of the tint. Without it on, well, i don't have to tell you....just curious.

FOund this on the nysDMv site

Section 375 (12-a) of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law does not allow a windshield or front side windows that are dark. The windshield and front side windows cannot block more than 30% of the light. Seventy percent or more of the light from the outside must pass through the window. This law also applies to the rear window unless the vehicle has outside rear-view mirrors on both sides. The mirrors must give the driver a full and clear view behind the vehicle.

If the vehicle is classified as a station wagon, sedan, hardtop, coupe, hatchback or convertible, the rear side windows must also allow at least seventy percent of light from the outside to pass through the window.

It is illegal to sell, offer for sale, or install glass that does not comply with this law. It is illegal to operate a vehicle with glass that does not comply with this law.

If a medical condition requires a person to have tinted vehicle windows, they can request an exemption from the law. Request form MV-80W from a DMV Office or Call Center.

The text of this law is attached below under "File Attachments".

How much do you drive? Anytime I had dark tints on my car, they always pull me over. Their excuse is that I'm a danger to them because of my dark tint. [/QUOTE]

I have VA Plates and with the exception of winshield tint it is not mandated by inspection, it's up to the police to regulate violations. I'm living in the trenton/hamilton area and I drive the turpike to Hoboken everyday. I'm always around the popo but I never have been pulled for tints.

How much do I drive? Well consider I have 25K on my 07-S which I bought in march, I would say...too much lol

I've heard this work around too.. maybe just put in the doc excuse in the car and show the cop when hes giving a ticket. I'm sure it would take a huge amount of paper work for the bmv to get this official. Guess I don't have to worry about it in Indiana... but still worth a shot

Never seemed to have a problem with cops around Southern Indiana for tint. *knock on wood*

On this car I have 5% all the way around with a 5% Banner across the windshield about 8 inches wide. Enough to keep the sun out of my eyes.

The last vehicle I had was a 03 GMC Envoy with 5% tint on the front with 5% tint over all the back windows which already had the privacy glass tint on them. Then 20% down the windshield. It was stupid dark and I will probably never go that dark again it sucked to drive at night, but I got used to it after awhile.

This may have already been posted, as I don't have time to read the whole thread right now, but find another NBP TL like yours (but without the tint) then take pictures for the court. When I had to go on my old car, I actually removed them and took pictures, they never checked out the actual car (although, I'd suggest if you do this, don't drive it to court with the tint on, haha, just in case).

I finally gave up with the window tint in IL - after 2 warnings, the 3rd time was a ticket - even though it was knocked down from $100-something to $65 I think, it wasn't worth the hassle (fwiw, I had 5% on the rear and rear quarters and 51% on the front windows). They still got me for the front windows being tinted (at 51%)!!!!

I paid mine..

I paid mine, in California, because I didn't want to hassle with removing it and putting it back on. Once I removed it too, it comes off really simply with a razor blade, and then had the 2 sides put back on for like $75.00.. It is a matter of time and whether it is worth it to you to save $. I think of it as the cost of having "illegal" tint.

Count on the State Troopers to come through

I got two window tint tickets for the NBP TL (Parchment interior), 5% all the way plus 30% full windshield. Let me clarify, I was PULLED OVER SOLELY FOR TINT. NOBODY in CO besides State Troopers cares...regular cops sometimes peep when they roll by but never do anything, and if I have been stopped for any other reason, they never even mentioned the tint.

The excuse was as stated already "we can't see you in the car, we don't know what your doing". WOW I must be really hardcore if I am going to pull a drive-by on a cop on the way in to work!

They don't care about the tint, they care about the money. I got pulled over by the same guy after the first tint ticket (he knew where I worked after the first one, and was waiting for me a couple weeks late at the edge of my work complex, profiling!), he just gave me another ticket and whined that I didn't take it off yet. Both times I just paid and went on my way.

Scofflaws!

Has it occurred to any of you guys to tint your cars legally from the start?

If you break the law, then be prepared for the consequences. You can piss and moan that it's the cops fault but he is just doing what you pay him to do. And he didn't put the illegal tint on your car; you did.

Also, there is nothing inherently wrong with profiling. Police do it everyday. It's an important part of police work. Profiling by race alone, however, is not usually appropriate. In fact, all large police departments have at least one specialist profiler. The FBI has an entire section dedicated to profiling.

Here is my NBP car with camel interior. It is totally legal and I'm not driving over curbs at night because I can't see out.
