Thule Excursion for my 2006 TL

Hey Gang,

My family is still debating on whether to mass-migrate to my brother's place in a rural area of Michigan for Thanksgiving (he's set up some nice heaters in his barn so we can have a socially distanced celebration), or, in the face of massively rising Trump Virus numbers, stay home for the holiday. Talking to my college age daughter last night, she indicated she and her significant other would need a fair amount of space in the car due to a project he will need to complete during the week. Given our basic luggage, his science experiment stuff, my bread baking supplies, and of course, four adults, attempting the 1,720 mile trip, it was pretty obvious without some sort of extra stowage capability, packing the car was going to be problematic. While still on the phone with her I took a quick gander at Craigslist and right at the top of my search I found a Thule 667ES Excursion, used once and in great shape, being offered a couple of towns over. As anyone who has tried to mount a rack system on the roof of a 3G TL knows all too well, it has a short roof, so the ubiquitous long and narrow Thule clamshell boxes can be problematic with a narrow gap between the lateral bars; especially when driving into the teeth of a stiff breeze. Long story short, the stubby but relatively speaking wide Excursion box fit the bill quite nicely; I picked it up first thing this morning.

Best of luck to you horseshoez!! Never mounted anything on the roof of either of my 3G TLs, but am interested to hear about your voyage.

Well, Michigan is heading into Lockdown and the trip is off.

Looks like the Thule system goes up into the hayloft until maybe next Spring when we are talking about trying a Thanksgiving redo; maybe we'll call it Eastergiving, or simply Thankster.
