Thoughts on a couple mods

Well I was thinking.............what mods would I really appreciate, and i came up with a couple. One a very simple change to a proven mod, and the other is one that i would really love to acomplish, but have not researched the difficulties around it.

First the easy one..........I never have much occassion for a rear view camera, but I want a front view camera mounted low so I can see dangerous curbs/parking bumpers etc before I smash my lip into it especialy handy once my drop is completed.

The harder but hopefully not impossible to accomplish would be a mod to reduce the turning radius of the TL. Are there stops on the rack that can be modified to allow a little more turn in? re valving of the rack? without steering geometry problems......I just want a little tighter manuverability at slow speeds!

Would be better if you can get a night vision camera in the front. I have got no clue how you are going to accomplish the second one

The second one would not be as easy as in the fox body mustang where you can replace the k-member. That would be a good mod to figure out.

The front camera has been discussed before. It's possible but you run into a few issues: flying debris and heat from the engine

If you can find a way to get around these issues then mounting a camera using Dom's TVandNav2Go would be cake.

Slammed_JDM - it's not that complicated...everyone has different opinions.

pohljm - both of those sound interesting...looking forward to seeing what you can do...good luck.

To funny.........you will never find a post where I said the stock wheels look better than a staggered setup. I agree that a staggered setup looks awesome to the uneducated. If you like the look thats terrific. I will never have it on a FWD vehicle. lets try to keep it on topic

i have ordered the avelectronics nav interface with plans to have one maybe two front cameras as my type s already has a backup camera. if anyone has ever watched the getaway in stockholm series you will know how easy it is to destroy a camera lens. i was thinking of a clear plexiglass inclosure (or at least front blocker) behind the grill. i hadn't considered engine heat. so guess the point is i think the camera is a great idea. the curb where i park at work was perfect before my drop but is too low now. so i have to be reeeeaaal careful

i dont thinkheat from engine is an issue, or debris. my dads gotta ls430 and it has a camera lens for the laser cruise control and it is mounted in a plastic box which is mounted between pass. foglight and lic. plate, is this at all poss, id be intrested if it was simple inexpensive and feasible...

BTW, I think the front-mounted camera idea is VERY intriguing. I have a couple small "blemishes" on the very front of my bumper from trying to adjust to parking this car vs. my 2000 Accord.

A laser cruise control camera is pointed almost horizontal, whereas a front view camera would need to mounted at a downward angle where you will be able to view both sides of the bumper. I'm not sure if there is such a location on our cars.

The front grill has been discussed as an option, but you are very close to the radiator.

I think another possible location is at the undercarriage of the car near the air dam. There the camera can be pointed almost horizontal but then you'll still have issues about running over speed bumps and objects on the road.

hmm....interesting....

The first one is definitely feasable, something I want to do as well when I get the NAV2TV.....

As for the second one, I'm not sure how possible that would be.

thanks datmrman. that is a good thread. i reposted here because I am interested in the camera for the same reasons pohljm originally posted. i need to make sure i don't get too close to a curb.

my car is low enough as it is now and once i install the ronjon lip kit i am going to really have to watch out. i am thinking that the lower the camera the better. i am thinking one of the cutouts in the lower grating: anyone see anywhere better?

btw: still kinda new at this so if i should to repost somewhere else let me know

Hey pohljm, that would be smooth as hell if you could reduce the radius. I don't think it's that bad now, but damn, it would be even nicer if we could do a doughnut ON a doughnut! LOL! Go for it man!
