Those blind spots

i've seen a few posts about TL blind spots. anyone know where to find small rectangular "frameless" convex blind spot mirrors ?? the real glass ones are better.

fix your mirrors. i can see any car next to me in the side mirrors, up to halfway past my drivers door (in which i would be able to see the rear end of the parallel car. The only "blindspot" i have are those damn side pillars near the windshield - they are so thick, guess cuz of the airbag.

Those 'side pillars near the windshield' were the first things I noticed when test driving my TL. They kind of bothered me, but I got used to them right away. They do hold the side curtain airbags, so they are worth their size. I don't notice any other major blind spots, but the visibility is not as good as my old car, but driving the TL is much more exciting and fun than my minivan!

Check out this thread. I never thought it would work but now I wouldn't have the mirrors adjusted any other way.

I set both side mirrors so when in driving position I barely see the rear of my car (inner side of the mirrors). This way the only blind spot is the one very close to your window, almost at the point where your peripheral vision catches it. I don’t use the center rear mirror and this works fine for me. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

This was a huge issue on this site when the TL was launched 14 months ago. I adjusted my mirrors in exactly that way, and it really works.

The only problem I see with that adjustment is when backing into a garage. It would be impossible to see how close you are too hitting the sides. I always back in so I don't think I would like it.

Blind spots in the TL aren't bad at all. We have an infiniti FX and the blind spots are horrible but hell if it isn't a cool car. And driving my friends 350z, well, you can't see anything.

This is interesting - tho it won't fix my complaint that the front pillars are like trying to look around a tree, it seems very interesting - def. worthy of a try.

I just try not to make a habit of anyone getting that close to me tho that I need anything other than the rear-view

Thanks for the suggestion.

Yea I just about hit a pedestrian crossing in front of me this morning on way to work. He was completely hidden by the D@#$ left pillar. He gave me the finger and I rightly deserved it. We have alot of walkers in our area in the morning. With cars I can see at least a part of them behind the pillar(s). Pedestrians or bikes are completely obscurred at times.

I find it's particularly bad when you're making a left turn and someone is crossing in front of you. They're completely blocked by the pillar.

What I do now is look to the left and then lean forward a bit as I'm about to go into the turn, then lean back and look left as I'm in the turn. It becomes automatic after you do it a few times and it really fixes the blind spot.

The way I adjust my mirrors is, the last thing I see in the right of the rear view I set the interior side (left) of the passenger mirror to that spot. Set the driver interior to the last thing you see in the left side of your rearview. I found it takes a little time to get used to but it works. Hope you can understand what I'm trying to explain.

I fixed my side mirrors perfectly. It took some time, but its perfect. no blind spots, and i can see cars that are to my sides up to my door, which by then i can already be able to see when looking at the side mirror. I could also see the entire line of the car behind the side mirrors, (someone said that a certain setup isnt good because you wont be see walls when backing up, i dont have that problem). They way i fixed my mirrors, i was parked in my driveway and lined my car up with the neighbors across the street in his driveway, and aligned it as if he was next to me on a highway. My driveway is also on a bit of an incline, but i think that helped th side mirrors to come up perfect, when matching it to be able ot view my beighbors car.

-I wish i had a digital camera. I got an expensive 35mm camera, but no digi. Any recommendation on digital cameras? Not so expensive but decent photos, since i already have a camera that gives quality pictures.

Dr. Murdock, you can check out digital cameras here:

http://www.steves-digicams.com/

I like the Canon PowerShots for inexpensive digitals, if you want to spend a little more go with the PowerShot S500.

Buy the camera you choose from:

http://www.beachcamera.com/shop/home.asp

Great prices and service, but don't buy the accessories from Beach. That's where they make up for the discount they offer on the camera!

The only safe way to avoid the blind spots is to move your head around like a bobble doll.

I had tried this for a little while and it worked great for seeing cars. The problem was that I couldn't see motorcycles when they were riding between cars/on lane lines (which is legal in CA). That was enough reason for me to switch the mirrors back to the "standard" setup.
