8000 just means more blue/purple. If anything, the 5000K bulbs are BRIGHTER than the 8000K.

 

Sorry my bad. I'll rephrase... Wow! Those fogs are a head turner. They really get noticed!

I got 5000K because I wanted something more noticeable but maintain as much brightness as stock 4300K. Plus the 5000K fogs were close to my 5500K low beams.

 

For the best bang for your buck, get lucenta. If you want the best of the best - get osram cbi's or Philips:

Anything like ebay, 8k+ etc will be a waste of your money, cheaper bulbs burn different and burn the back of your bowls which will ruin your projectors and luminosity of cheaper bulbs suck in general.

 

just got my headlights cleared of all the haze, they came out pretty good, now im lookin for new hids, my cars 2008 tl type s, and Ive had the car for 3 yrs and Ive never changed the hids and I doubt the person before me did, so like 9 yr old hids possible


when I turn on my lights, one hid looks like pinkish and one looks blueish is this a sign of anything


would it be a good idea to just get new hids?

im not really install savvy so I would have someone do it, im gonna get the osram cbi ones how much would someone charge me. I don't wanna have some joe smo mess up 160$ bulbs

 

I know this thread was started a long time ago, but there is some misinformation (I think) here that I'd like to clear up, since no one seems to have caught it:

Assuming "most LEDs" are referring to stock automotive LED headlights, that is wrong. Stock headlights are 5000-5500K. 7000K is that annoying blue color you see on many bad HID retrofits (actually usually more than 7000K), and on many bad halogen mods you see on lifted trucks.

5000K-5500K is about as pure white as you can get without sacrificing much light output, and is right around the sunlight range (5500-6500K), which is what most of you seem to realize. Anything more than that and you quickly fall down the lumen scale and climb up the annoying scale.

 

The stock Osram bulbs are 4300k.

why would I spend an extra $110-$125 for the Osram CBI or Osram Nightbreaker over the new Morimoto XB version (4500K)??

 

Man I thought by now people would have learned by now to not EVER get rebased HID conversions, for example, 9006 fog lamps. Please, to be courteous to oncoming traffic get some 9012 bulbs. They have 1875lu compared, 875 more than a standard 9006 and even 175 over a 65w 9005. Plus, they're 3450K which is what you want from FOG lamps. I know it looks cool to have matching color temps, but function wise.

Pic on left is my 9012's fog lamps on alone. The right pic is of the cutoff of some 9006's after one of my 9012's burned out, but the cutoff with the 9012 is just as sharp.

I'd actually appreciate if someone that has an HID fog lamp conversion take a pic that shows cutoff of just their fog lamps against a wall. I'm curious as I've never seen a pic of that before. Only a pic of those God awful dual LED 9006 bulbs that had no cutoff and were aimed higher than my high beams.

 

The morimoto is the same as our lucenta - basically they use the german salts technology, so its like a Philips or osram cloan. The cbi's or Philips we sell some lose lumens as fast with use and are defiantly a little brighter. I personally love the Philips how they work in the TL projectors. Our lucenta fit real nice as well and bring out a nicer cut off even in a stock set of headlights,

That review shows the Moromitos being brighter in one test and slightly less output in another test. Do you still think that the Phillips are worth the extra money over the Moromitos or the Lucents? I guess it's really pennys I'm talking about when my OEM bulbs have lasted 13 years so far??

I've had the morimotos for a few years now. They look and work great! However I don't expect them to last as long as the OEM bulbs did.

In case you're wondering, I found Powerbulbs from the Osram sight. The specs listed for the NB on the Osram and Powerbulbs sights are curiously different from the specs listed on Amazon (Speed Shop, $140) and/or TheRetroFitSource ($175). The item model # (66240XNB-HCB), however, matches on all sites...

 

Unless something is better than the CBIs that's the only bulb I would jump to if my morimotos fail...

 

Just received the NightBreakers from powerbulbs.com. Shipping from the UK took 14 days, not bad for only $112.96 shipped.

Osram has a new "Trust Program" where you can verify the bulbs' authenticity online. These bulbs are authentic, further backed by the fact that powerbulbs.com is an Osram partner.

I'll post a review after installation, probably next week.
