Smile Thinking of trading in my TSX for TL

I have an '05 TSX w/o navi 11km. Had the car for 6 months now. And was offered trade in plus $10k for new 05 TL w/o navi. Included is spoiler, winter floor mats and rubber guards. Just curious if others think this is a good offer. What it comes down to $33k for my TSX.

how much are they charging you the TL and how much are they giving you for the TSX? When you say 33K is that the price you end up paying for the TL?

I do not believe it is 33K for a used TSX. The 05s are getting discounted now more and more. I would keep the TSX and wait for the 06. Or get some performance mods. You are still paying another 10K for the TL. The TL has had more issues than the TSX from what I hear.

I made a typo. I meant 11000km not 11km. My TSX is great but it lacks power. I couldnt resist the thrust thats offered in a TL. TL is a much superior car but than again its another $10k. Still not sure what i want.

I would hang on to the TSX until the 06 TL comes out and you are in a win win situation. If the 06 has a lot of cool changes you win and if it doesn't, by that time you'll get an even better deal on the 05 because they would be trying to get rid of them. WIN WIN!

ah, i had a feeling you were from canada. no one ever says 'km' to mean kilo miles.

yup, the power's great in the TL, but the TSX is more nimble and has adequate power. why not get a second car, instead? like a little weekend projector car that'll satisfy your thirst for thrust/speed/power? TSX will hold its value real well, imo, so hold on to it.

didn't you drive all these car(s) 'before' you purchased the tsx????

i'd hold on unless you want to/can take the loss. if you want/need the power that bad, s/c the tsx, in a year or two, remove the bolt on and sell it then upgrade to the TL.

personally i'd wait for the sh-awd TL before i make the jump.

you better do a test drive, definitely more than once on the TL. the TL might seem pretty similar to the tsx in the long run for you, which might not be worth 10K. don't fall for the great first impression you get on the first test drive. cuz i feel like most cars feel great on the first test drive, so do it more than once to be sure if you really want it. for 10k you can go on 5 all inclusive vacations to bahamas, mexico, europe!! i mean think about it real hard and make sure you really want it bad.

We traded a 2004 TSX with 25,000 miles -- about 35,000 km -- for a 2005 TL a month ago. $9,000 US plus a few documentation fees.

The TL has more power. It does not have the same level of build quality. It also feels distinctly nose-heavy in comparison, though it's only a 61% front / 39% rear split.

The TSX is better able to be hung out in curves, though neither car with stock tires is an all-out performance beast.

Then again, if all you care about is straight-ahead power, try to get a solid-axle V8 Mustang w/300 HP.

Drop the spoiler and mats and offer 1200 more for the Navi model. TL is less sporty, but it is faster.

there's no comptech supercharger available yet. you can go with hondata reflash. there's apparently some decent gain...

Wow, I am surprised with all the TL lovers out there none would have taken the deal. Maybe it just goes to show how good of a car a TSX is. I appreciate all the replies given. I can say it weighed alot in my decision. As for time being I will probably wait for 06's as mentioned by suffall96. REason for getting tsx over tl was because of the wife's preference(love can be sooo blinding). But now i can say i am happily split up. She took the suv and gave me the tsx. So now i will be looking forward for more greater things in life.

I'm considering the same sort of trade-up. I've got a 2004 TSX (6MT, non-nav) and I drove an 05 TL as a loaner car this week. I loved it.. even though it was a 5AT and I'd get the 6MT, it was a blast to drive. That, and the tech saying "Don't you wish you'd spent a few grand more and gotten this one?" really got me thinking.

The thing is, it looks like I could get around $23k for my TSX which is just amazing for a car that I paid $26k for over two years ago. (I have just 16k miles on it.) I'm sure it will depreciate more over the next 2 years than it did over the previous two. Then the new TL's are selling at invoice (on CarsDirect.com at least).. just over $30k. It seems like a ripe time to upgrade.

I was looking here for drivers' opinions on the differences between the TSX and the TL. How much handling, if any, do you sacrifice for those extra 70hp?

Incidentally, I'd be tempted to opt for the Nav system this time around, too. And Anthracite instead of Satin Silver.

What FL zipcode are you in? In NE Florida (32073), 2005 TL's are only $200 under MSRP on carsdirect.com...

What a ripoff.

I'm in the same boat. 04 TSX, 6m, no nav. Edmunds gives a dealer trade-in value of ~21K - even that value is more than what I owe. I'm looking at getting an 05 TL with nav. Thinking of pinging the local dealers and seeing what can be done.

What is the CarsDirect.com Target Price?

The CarsDirect.com Target Price reflects a typical, negotiated price (before taxes and other customary fees and charges) generally found in your area for the vehicle that you selected. This price is based on our research and estimates of supply and demand in your local marketplace. There are many factors that go into the final price any specific transaction including local supply and demand. Your final price may differ.

Carsdirect only lists a "Target Price" for the TL in that area and not a Carsdirect fixed selling price. So therefore, you can't buy the car from Carsdirect at that price, you would have to get your own dealer quote. They are merely referencing what a typical negotiated price for the car would be in that area.

Wow, never noticed that before. Quoting a Honda in my area gets an actual Carsdirect price rather than a target price with Acura. That makes sense now.

Carsdirect's aim is way off the target for the '05 TL.

Ahh, thanks! That's very good to know. I could still take that target price in to my dealer, but now I know I couldn't just "buy it now" from CarsDirect for that price.

That's the thing.. I paid $26,285 for it over two years and 16k miles ago, and KBB.com still says that it's worth $22,890 to a private buyer. *If* that's correct, it's only dropped $3300 in two years. It will likely drop more than that in the next two years.
