Thinking of trading '04 TL for ap2 s2k
After test driving the car today, im interested in trading my 04 tl for s2k ap2... is this an upgrade or should I keep my tl. My tl is paid off. How much would I get from dealership a 106k miles? Is it worth it?
Depends on your definition of upgrade. The car has no low end torque but a high revving engine, in fact, the car will take some getting used to as the engine needs to build up some RPM's to get into the power curve as the V Tech comes on @ 6000 RPM with a 8900 redline. It's a great car, nimble with excellent handling, but if you don't mind a 2 seater, you'll thoroughly enjoy the car. The car weighs maybe 2800lbs and has larger tires than the TL. We have a 2 seater and I use it whenever we can, although only 1500 miles p/year, but when I drive the car it's always enjoyable and although I need to hold back when the wife is in the car, I still get a blast out of driving it.
As far as cost, let's say a 2006 list is $20,000, maybe $10,000 for the TL on a trade in.
If you have some extra cash burning a hole in your pocket, get the Honda and throw a supercharger on and you'll never look back.

I had my TL for a month and almost got a gorgeous AP2 but I couldn't give up the back seats. I like having the option to drive when hanging out with a group of people.
I'll have a S2k later in life once I have a house and I'm out of school.

I've been thinking about replacing the TL with an ap1 S2000 after I graduate next year, since I won't be needing to haul around friends & teammates nearly as often.
The TL is loads of fun, and a great car for what it is, but I think I would get far more enjoyment out of driving a barebones rwd 4cylinder two-seater. I've also contemplated NA or NB miatas, MR2s, etc. if I want to go for something even more thrifty/minimalistic.
Does anybody know how TL vs S2k(ap1 or ap2) insurance rates compare?

Depends on where you live. If you live in a place with bad winters I would keep the TL. If your Acura is paid off, go buy the S2K and use the TL as a DD.
TheChamp. The S2K is an amazing handling car. More dudes drive a S2K than chics. If you know how to drive it, every curvy road becomes a thrill.

trade alvalon for s2k?
keep TL?
s2k is a fun and great car and all but it's definitely not a DD car. there's no room for anything inside the cabin(doesn't even have a real glovebox). altho, the truck space is surprisingly big

Even modded
Do it!
I was going to say you might miss the practicality, but considering the other two cars in the garage, that's really a moot point.
S2000s are only going to get older, and you might not have this chance later on.

I have a 08 TL-S and AP1 S2k (02) and the S2k with full coverage and listed as a leisure car is about the same to insure as the TL. I'm going to try to switch the S2k to a collectors insurance like haggerty or something but i don't think you can do that if it's your DD. Also, it's very important to consider how much less forgiving an AP1 S2k is compared to the TL when it comes to driving at the car's limits. I would suggest a few AutoX runs for good measure when learning the car. Another important factor to consider as i've seen someone mention a 2000 year S2k is that they started to put glass rear windows in 2002 as opposed to the murky plastic. This may not matter, but the glass was a must for me. Check out s2ki.com and s2kca.com if you need informative S2k resources online, and good luck!

I have an NA miata as a secondary car. The S2k is going to have a lot more power out of the box, that is for sure. The Miatas do weigh less though and mods are plentiful/cheap. Spend around 2800 for a decent entry level turbo setup with a megasquirt for the Miata and you'll be having loads of fun. Stock motors are good for 230-250wtq, anything more and you start to get wavy gravy rods.
You can also pick up a decent NA Miata for sub 3500 and keep the TL. At 24 I pay 195/mo for full coverage on both cars as well as my renter's insurance.
