Winter is coming and This car has never been rust proofed. I bought the car when it only had 32,000 mileage. What do you guys think?

I just called Rust check and they told me $184.99+tax Canadian. They also have cheaper stuff which starts at $119. he said I have to do this every year in order to keep the rust away.

That sounds kinda pricey. I always thought the going rate was around $100 cad. I am in the same boat as you as I just picked up my car about a week ago.

I also heard that the best time to rust proof your car is AFTER winter, which is when all the salt starts to settle. As opposed to during the winter while it is constantly active.

Just some food for thought, I still have some more homework to do on that.

Hey, if you find a better rate.. send me a PM and let me know where to go

Often that stuff causes more rust than it protects from. Cars now days are coated pretty good from the factory and that stuff wont get into the areas that would need it the most.

I just accept the fact that I live in MN, with salt and sand during the winter months. Just go to the car wash with an underbody spray and call it good.

This is completely false. The myth that rust proofing "causes more rust than it prevents" was started by the dealers so people would buy their overpriced rust protection instead of going to other places. If new cars don't need to be rust proofed then why are so many late model cars on the street full of rust?

OP: Get Krown, it's $110 and better than any other rust protection you can get. And it does get into every nook and cranny, they drill holes into your car.

What if you don't want to apply for a passport to get the car rustproofed Unfortunately, you Canadians are hogging all the Krowns.

I wash the car when the salt is aqueous. In other words, if it's 50 below, I don't bother washing the car, because the road salt can't melt the snow at that temperature, and so the salt on the road won't be wet on your car. Dry salt will not rust your car - it requires moisture in order to oxidize metal. Once the temperature is high enough that the roads are slushy, I wash it when I get home, underbody too.

Yes, it will probably rust eventually, but by then I'll want a new car anyway. Modern Hondas aren't nearly as bad as the ones made in the 80's and early 90's. It takes more than breathing on them to rust them out now.

I'm in VT where salt and calcium chloride is used in excess. With my 04 Honda Pilot, I don't use any rust proofing and it is fine. I don't travel dirt roads or anywhere that is hard on the underbody so your situation may be different.

You mean those devices that use electric current to prevent rust? I have no experience with them myself but from what I've read they do not offer anywhere close to the same protection as an oil spraying. They work really good on boats though.

Some more info on those here: http://www.canadiandriver.com/forum/...c,55583.0.html
