Thinking of getting a used 06 in Ontario

Ahoy,

I'm thinking of getting a used TL. I was at the dealership last week but they didn't have a used with Navi so I test drove one without. I got a call on Saturday that they'll be getting an 06 with Navi and 16k km this week so I'll be going to check it out.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to look for? I have heard enough about the rattle problems so I'll be paying a lot of attention to that, but what other problems do people have that I could check to make sure that my potential TL doesn't suffer from?

Also, the car I test drove had a gigantic gap between the steering wheel panels, at least 5mm. Is this normal? I hope not because I would expect much better fit and finish from a $45k Acura. Here is a picture to which gap I'm talking about: http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/5505/tlrx1.jpg

Thanks!

Bisz, Check to see if it had been in an accident. The gap in the steering wheel panel could have come replacing a depolyed airbag.

PS, I'm waiting on the '07 TL for the upgrades (including better Nav).

yes, check to see if it was in an accident. Also get a trusted mechanic/body shop person to see if the car has any problems and if it has been repainted. Also check for any body gaps of misalignments.

here is a thread with a list of things to do.

I would and only because its got 16K on it being an 06. That seems like alot to me. But this is coming from a guy who just hit 9K on an 05.

EDIT: you said 16Km thats still about 10K which seems like alot.

either that was a rental car for the dealership or the guy could not afford it or it was in an accident. most likely, a rental car but still go over with your "fine comb" (don't scratch it with the comb )

The sales guy said the guy bought it from them in March or April, but recently had a change in his life and had to get something cheaper. He apparently traded it in for something else at another dealer, who then sold it back to my local dealer because they were the original seller.

16k is not too bad, though it is more than average.

number 1 - carfax will tell u lots of things but if it was in an accident and totalled but insurance did not pay for repair it will never be on car fax (its a little complicated)

i have seen 1 year old cars with more then 100k on them and cars comletlly totaled with clean title no record anywhere at all lol (salvage dealers auction)

go to a collision repair shop , ask if someone knows 1 here on the forum thats close to u , have 1 of body repair guys go with u to take a look he will know in a sec if it was damaged (gad this big? almost guaranted)

see if it has original tires on it if not stay away , check rotors too ...

Don't rely too much on Carfax for this one. It takes time for the information from accidents over $2K to hit the carfax reports .... sometimes as long as 6 months. In this case if the car took a good hit it might not be on record as of yet. Having a good third party bodyshop look at it would be a great plan as they can tell by looking at the car what's happened to it

BTW - I've had my TL since the begining of Mar-06 and have 14K km on it based on one long road trip of 2K and the cottage and back every weekend. Best of luck findin' your new TL. Enjoy
