Thinking about a 2005 or 2006 TL what are the MAJOR problems

Basically all I want to know is what are the major problems with the car.....

My CL is at the acura dealer getting a new transmisison and I got to drive a 08 TL as a loaner and really like it so I was thinking about trading in my car for a 05 or 06 TL with navigation......

since the search isn't so hot, I am asking you guys for help

I think the 05 - 06 TLs are pretty solid. Nothing really major issues. Maybe the power steering hose recall. Oh yea, it won't be an Acura if it doesn't have rattles.

Just passing 25,000 miles & all is well. Only maintance outside of oil changes was pads & rotors (my choice on rotors) @ 22,000 miles.

05 TL w/ 47+++ miles. Had the power steering recall fixed, dead battery, two interior lights fixed (seat heater) and driver's seat bottom all fixed under warranty.

No major problems to complain about and no rattles. It's a mass produced vehicle. I don't expect it to be perfect, but I do expect it to last for a long time though because it is a Honda product.

'05 WDP/NAVI

No problems after 19k miles. Some things to consider would be:
1. Can't download address book to HFL
2. Fogs don't work (or look) as good as 07^. Sorta looks like you're beaming people when you use them.
3. Torque steer (but all TLs have this issue)
4. No TPMS sensor on th 05. Means you'll have to check tire pressure manually.

I'd recommend it. I don't have any other issues with my 05. Not even rattles.

Got an 06 TL MT. (what does WDP Mean?) I am at about 29K. Just replaced the battery. Had the right front axel replaced. 3rd gear issues. The Nav is outdated. Time for new Brembo breaks.

Valid complaint.

I don't like the bumper fogs--they look like a ghetto add-on, even the ones from the factory on the newer 2008-9s. I like some of the custom jobs better than those factory ones! Also, I find that the 2005 fogs work very well in adverse driving conditions.

This really is exaggerated as a problem for daily driving...

I wish I had this in my 2005!

Other stuff I wish for: a switch to toggle on the backup camera, a side view backup camera, a factory installed ipod adapter (Peripheral is great but it's a little buggy sometimes), NFL on XM radio, XM traffic, a better navi screen with higher resolution, cooled seats,

None!
The above posters mention possible minor issues- seat leather, ratles- which most buyers don't experience.

ok cool, I really don't care about not being able to DL my phone's address book as most phone's don't allow remote sim operation by default...........

torque steer? what is that? I never notice it even when I turn off the TCS.....on my CLS and I doubt the TL will be anyworse....i certantly do not notice it in the 08 I am driving now.......

rattles annoy the crap out of me.....for this kind of money, car should not rattle.....

Torque steer = steering wheel shakes on turns, like when your brakes go bad and you are decelerating.

Wow, these cars rattle so much! You will not be able to stand it!

The Major problem with TLs and any Acura with a V6 is the TRANSMISSION!!!! Take care of it and it will take care of you. But boy do alot of Trannys go bust. If I had a chance to do it over again, I might have bought another car. But I love my 04 TL.

Price seems fair enough. But you can do better if you have the patience. What's the warranty?

To the OP:

I have a 05 TL Auto, 28k miles, no problem or rattles to date, hope it stays that way

I looked at the link of the RRP TL you are considering. I also think that you can find a cheaper one, unless you have already negotiated a price with that dealership which is less than what's advertised. By the way, in my opinion Redondo Red Pearl looks best with Ebony (Black) interior. They are rare but they are out there...I guess I just dont like light colored interiors...

For a couple thousand more, you can score an 07 Type-S with that milage or less.. Look into that as it will be worth it more when you trade it or sell.

05 TL. I was told that my mirror tilt motor was going out. GOnna get that fix this week or next. Seatheater bulb burnt out, was getting fog in one headlight. Rear deck rattle seemingly impossible to fix. Other rattles. But No major issues really. TLs are great cars.

No offense but, If this is the way you think, either you haven't bought very many cars in your life or you are not very smart when it comes to car shopping. Look at it this way - If you pay that price for their TL its really like if they're giving you 8k-9k for your CL. Typical dealer strategy, it will look like they're giving you more for your trade but the additional amount you "think" you're getting on your trade is really hidden in the cost of the car they are selling to you.

I have turned down $ 21k for my 2004 with 13,000 miles.

I have had NO MAJOR PROBLEMS. I have NO RATTLES. I have NO TORQUE STEER.

If I floor it while making a tight turn, the stability control will cause the steering wheel to move around as it tries to get traction and some may interpret this as torque steer.

I can take my hands off the steering wheel and floor the throttle from a dead stop while going straight ahead and the car goes straight as an arrow without my correction. If it had a torque steer problem, it would certainly show itself then.

If you want to experience torque steer, drive a Maxima before the CVT.

stay away from MT? wow...that's a new one. MT's seemed to be prized, as they are hard to find, meaning most people who own them love them and don't want to sell them.

I bought my 06' NBP 6SPD MT non/Navi about a month ago, 48k miles, (now at 50k) and it's absolutey stellar. I have not one single complaint other than a few minor HFL annoyances with my iPhone 3G. But no rattles, 6SPD MT is wonderful, she's very zippy, leather seats are solid as hell, I just love everything about this car. oh and did I forget to mention NO RATTLES?

I'm going to guess the "rattleing" issue might be specific to just how certain ones are maintained, driven, etc. Im sure someone who drives it "hard", putting more stress on the frame is going to lend to rattling issues alot sooner than anyone else.

My driving experience with it is pretty much spot on with what Xpitor had to say. I can floor it and she just goes straight as an arrow, smooth, clean, no torque, except for like he said, when you accelerate hard in a quick turn, you'll feel VSA trying to auto-correct the steering and you'll feel the steering jerk a slight bit to try and compensate. In which you can just always turn off VSA if you're anticipating doing that. This "steering jerk" is felt more prevelant if you're driving a MT, because you usually have one hand on the wheel, and the other on the stick-shift, so with only one-hand on the steering, it's a tad bit harder to control the "jerk", versus you flooring it in an automatic with both hands on the steering (giving you more control of the wheel).

actually, the only "rattle" i've seen so far is when I drop the bass too low...or too lazy to shift down to 1st, and accelerate from 2nd out of a near-standstill....

go for an 06 if you can, it's newer than an 05!

cheers and good luck.

But I have had a few rattles over the course of 56K on the TL

Where do you get $16K max number from? Kelly Blue Book has $25K retail, at least for my area.

lol i have bought many cars but what is the point of haggling them down in price to only have them low ball you on ur trade......I'll make it easy for them to come to a deal without a big headache....in the end I would end up paying the same for the car but more in taxes if I talk them down and they cut me 3-4K on my trade and wrap it into the loan..........

21,800 - 11,000 = tax on only 10K +11K I owe

lets say I talk them down to 19,800 and they give me 8K = tax on 11,800 + 11K I owe

pay off amt is always added in after taxable amt......

Ok It makes more sense now, I guess this is because of the state you live in, we can't do that here in Cali tho unfortunately, you still get taxed on the purchase price of the car, so if the car cost 20k, you still get taxed on 20k regardless of whether you have a 10k or 15k trade, that would be nice tho.

I just look at what you can get from another person on Ebay or whatever. I bought my 2005 a year ago for $20k, with navi, with 45k miles, in mint condition. People on here blow a lot of money though. If someone is willing to pay me $25k for my car now, I'll take it!
