Ok so who wants to try this with a key from the Volkswagon ie. Jetta. LOL J/K

I'll be ordering my key today! (Honda Accord)

Any reason as to why we shouldn't use a valet key to take apart? Just trying to figure a way to not hack up my original key.

Valet key doesn't open the glove box? I also think it doesn't allow you to pop the trunk...only open the door and start the car.

it does allow you to open the trunk... which is why the trunk lock button is in the glove box. you're supposed to lock the trunk, and then lock the glovebox.

Nice work

Have you tried to link the key to the TL?? (I doubt it'll link but it would be interesting to try)

Good idea. I haven't thought of this. I'll try to link the key to the TL later. I'll let you know.
I remember when the original TL remotes weren't linked to the car, the MID also didn't show anything.

So does anyone think this will work for the RL? My key fob is the older looking one with the dark grey case. Not the newer looking cases with the acura emblem on it.

Detailed Instructions

For those of you that want detailed instructions, I'm kinda pre-occupied with my daughter's wedding for the weekend, then I'm in Boston on business next week. I'll try to post detailed instructions (if you still want them) when I get back, but it looks like Walker29 and 6mtV6 are all over this project so they can probably answer questions. I hope I'm not volunteering you guys without your permissions, but you both appear to have an excellent grasp on the project. Right?

As I'm understanding the procedure, you could do this without cutting up an original key.

1. Take original to locksmith, and have them cut a plain old chipless metal key.

2. Swap with key in Accord remote.

3. Reprogram (a) start chip and (b) remote in Accord key.

4. Gloat.

I tried linking it but it wont link.

The only problem now is that everytime you start the car you would have to adjust the dash lights. It goes back to default. I have my dash lights on the brightess level.

I haven't heard of anyone reprograming the Accord chip to work with the TL yet. I think it should work. Reprograming the remote is easy.

I think I'm just gonna keep the "H" logo on the key/remote.
I can't wait to see the service advisor's face when I bring it in for service.

just tried that myself, it won't link to the car, you can open the doors and trunk, and lock the doors, but thats about it

It won't link to the car, but the dash lights won't revert back to the default settings. They will revert back to the settings set by the last keyfob that opened the door, though.

So if you want the dash lights at a certain setting, set them at the same setting using both keyfobs (unless your other driver definitely wants them set another way). Then, when you unlock the door with your new keyfob, the dash lights will remain at the previously set setting and will not change.

Same thing as if you unlocked the door with the key and not the key fob, the dash lights would not change settings. There is no default setting for the dashlights, only the ones retained using the keyfob and the MID.

My first impulse when writing this up was to say the dashlight settings are not retained, because I didn't remember that they are, so it is a good thing I went out and tested this, and they are definitely retained for each keyfob.

Another thought just came to mind. Maybe the new keyfob is linking to the MID, somehow, and when you use it you are changing the dashlight setting to whatever was set by one of the original keyfobs. I don't think it is, but you can try it out.

I have my dash lights set at the brightess for both TL keyfob. When I unlock the doors with the TL keyfob and start the engine, it stays at the setting I set it previously. When I start my car with the Accord keyfob it goes back to the setting that is not the brightess (default?).

I don't see how. As I said before, unlocking it with an unlinked keyfob is the same as unlocking it by putting the key in the door lock. If you do that with the new key, it doesn't revert back, right? And I still don't think there is such a thing as a default setting. But there is a setting on the MID, for each driver, which says "Default all". Right under where it says "Change settings". Maybe you hit this once by mistake.

Sorry Ron A. I just tried it again before and it works. I forgot that I was locking/unlocking my TL with both the TL keyfob and the Accord keyfob.

To get these features back, I would assume the original TL remote circuit board would need to be used. Does the original board fit, even a close fit? Could the board or innards of the Accord key be modified for it to fit?

Ok so we will conclude that this Accord key/fob does not link to the TL but when used will revert back to the last known linked drivers setting. Correct?

Used these:

PROGRAMMING THE REMOTE TRANSMITTER (KEYFOB)

Storing transmitter codes.
The codes of up to three transmitters can be stored into the keyless receiver unit memory. (If a fourth code is stored, the code which was first input will be erased.)

NOTE: It is important to maintain the time limits between the steps. Make sure the doors, the hood and the trunk lid are closed.

1. Turn the ignition switch ON (II)

2. Within 1 to 4 seconds, press the transmitter lock or unlock button with the transmitter aimed at the keyless receiver unit behind the driver’s side of the dashboard.

3. Within 1 to 4 seconds, turn the ignition switch OFF.

4. Within 1 to 4 seconds, turn the ignition switch ON (II).

5. Within 1 to 4 seconds, press the transmitter lock or unlock button with the transmitter aimed at the keyless receiver unit behind the driver’s side of the dashboard.

6. Within 1 to 4 seconds, turn the ignition switch OFF.

7. Within 1 to 4 seconds, turn the ignition switch ON (II).

8. Within 1 to 4 seconds, press the transmitter lock or unlock button with the transmitter aimed at the keyless receiver unit behind the driver’s side of the dashboard.

9. Within 1 to 4 seconds, turn the ignition switch OFF.

10. Within 1 to 4 seconds, turn the ignition switch ON (II).

11. Within 1 to 4 seconds, press the transmitter lock or unlock button with the transmitter aimed at the keyless receiver unit behind the driver’s side of the dashboard.

12. Confirm you can hear the sound of the door lock actuators within 1 to 4 seconds, then push the transmitter lock or unlock button again, or the code will not be stored.

13. Within 10 seconds, aim the transmitter (up to two additional ones) whose codes you want to store in the keyless receiver, and press the transmitter lock or unlock buttons. Confirm that you can hear the sound of the door lock actuators after each transmitter code is stored.

14. Turn the ignition switch OFF, and remove the key.

15. Confirm proper operation with the transmitters.

NOTE: Once the programming mode is entered, the remote button must be pressed a second time. If the button is not pressed, or if the ignition switch is turned OFF, the programming for all remotes will be cancelled.

several questions.... for those of you know who the answers... please answer

1. Does the panic button still work?

2. can you still roll the windows down remotely? (should be able to, i don't see why not)

3. How does the circuit board in the TL remote fit in the Accord remote? Does it just fit in there cause its essentially the same type and size board?

Nice! Thanks, I got mine key to learn my TL; the only thing I want to get out of the MID is the doors locking at 10MPH and unlocking with Ignition off. Too bad it wasn't defauted that way.

Any way to get the car to do that with the Accord key?

1. Panic button still works.

2. I haven't tried to roll the windows down yet, but I'm sure it should work.

3. We just reprogram the Accord remote to work with the TL. The TL circuit board is a little bigger.

No one has been able to link the Accord remote with the TL yet.

I just realized that when I have the headlights on and when I start the car, the dash lights and navi go back to one level below the brightest. When I have the headlights off and start the car, the dash lights and navi are at the brightest. It doesn't remember anything from the TL remotes that was linked.

i think you would need to unlock the car with the accord remote, then set your settings again.

that is a good question though. will my seat memory be off as well since it doesnt know which driver it is?

it will not let you change or set any settings with the MID if you use the accord remote.

the windows down feature does work if you hold the unlock button

The seat memory stays at the last memory that was linked to the TL remote.
