Things you can do to get more Kms/miles out of your tank?!

Hey guys,

I was just reading the other thread and it appears most of you guys get about 300++ miles per full tank.. i get about 320 kms.. thats no where near you guys, so i was wondering what things you can do to get more out of your tank! since it cost me about $60 dollars to fill up, and i fill up once a week...

Besides excessively accelerating.. what else can you do? lol

THnks!

cruise control really helps that much? I always thought cruise control would use up more gas.

I doubt it. The cruise control on this car is precise and very stable; it holds speed very well with minimal variation in rpm.

Two years ago, I had a set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires installed on my '04 manual TL. Immediately, I noticed increased rolling resistance which, of course, equated to slightly lower mileage numbers. So now I get around 24.5 MPG for my work commute and around town driving, and a little over 32 MPG on the highway. When the car had the EL42s factory shipped tires, my best city mileage was 27.98 and my best highway was 33.94 - both using the A/C.

Most of you probably know that you will tend to get better mileage in the summer months than in the colder months. In cold weather, the air is more dense. This means a greater amount of oxygen present per cubic foot of the stuff. The ECU reads this as a potentially lean condition and increases the fuel shot to compensate. More fuel and more oxygen per cylinder fill = more power = lower mileage.

As for driving tips, just drive normally and use common sense. If you have a manual, don't lug the engine and don't run it up too high. Get into 4th gear by the time you're doing 30 MPH (allowing for traffic and road conditions), and 5th by 40 MPH. Watch the throttle. You don't need to drive like a grandmother, but neither should you drive like a banshee. Make sure you change your engine air filter when you should and watch your tire pressure. Use synthetic oil of the correct viscosity and add a high quality fuel system cleaner to your tank every 6000 to 10000 miles depending upon what fuel you're using (and follow the directions on the bottle). Use the correct octane rating - as in 91 to 93 and don't go cheap on the fuel.
