They scratched my wheels

So i had 2 new DWS tires put on yesterday and today when i went to check them out up close, there is a nice chip on the wheel that goes to the aluminum. They made large scratch lines all over the lugs holes on every wheel and on top of that made a nice scrape on the wheel with the chip when they removed the tire. This is very poor quality work. Im going there first thing in the morning and i think i deserve a new wheel or all 4 for that matter because i dont think i can even order 1 due to the color not matching Please give any advice you can for my situation and what you think should be done. These wheels had 0 scratches before going there! People have no respect. Thanks AZ.

Forgot to mention i went to Belle Tire... if that matters.

Yeah that sucks. Good luck.

I had 4 new tires installed in the fall and told them when I dropped it off, "the wheels are new, and I expect them to look that way when I get it back". Had no issues.

That was just sloppy, "don't give a crap" work.
Let us know what turnout is

Honestly if you take your car to a discount tire or any other big chain tire shops this should be expected.

This is the reason why when I had nice wheels I made sure to take it to a independent shop that actually customizes cars and takes great care of your vehicle.

The tire guys at discount tire are getting paid $10-$11/hr and usually have a line of cars with customers waiting in the lobby wanting to get out. It's kind of their nature to do everything fast. You can't expect someone in that position and pay to be extremely cautious and meticulous about each and every car that goes through the shop. They'll most likely get bitched at by over head for being so slow.

I highly doubt they are going to do anything to fix the situation. I would be VERY surprised if they agreed to buy you all 4 brand new TL-S wheels.

All I can really say is good luck, but I'm 100% sure they aren't going to pay, fix or replace anything for you.

Can happen anywhere. I had a place put new tires on my legend a few years ago and told the guy to please be careful..the wheels are 20 years old and mint cond. he proceeded to place two of them face down on the concrete floor. The wheels are slightly convex so they got slightly scuffed. Morons

Sorry, but you don't deserve four new wheels. You deserve to get that wheel fixed at their expense, and nothing more.

They're only responsible for damaging one wheel, not all four. The most you'll get out of this is probably a couple free rotations and maybe like $100 off your next tire or set of tires.

This battle could be more of a headache than whatever results you're going to get. Considering you waited overnight, they'll put the blame on anything but themselves. Good luck.

I had tires installed at a big box shop. They damaged 2 of my rims in the process. i complained to the manager right there and then what they were going to do to make it right. The manager tried to make excuses for his employees and basically saying it wasn't their fault. I took my complaint to corporate, and subsequently spoke with the regional manager. Took my car to another one of their shops based on his recommendation to "fix" my wheels. They jacked them up even more and the store manager there ordered me a new set of rims (since the ones they damaged were discontinued). 2 months later... finally got the rims.

Never again will I go to a big box shop. My fancy wheels will only be handled by the performance shop that cares. Even my dealer knows to put on the kid gloves if they have to deal with my car.

OP if anything, you might be able to get them to fix (refinish) them. Doesn't hurt to bark up the tree if the store manager won't do anything. Good luck.

I know all 4 is out of the question, Im just frustrated. I most certainly deserve that wheel repaired or replaced at minimum. Thanks for sharing your experience. I do plan to bark up the tree if nothing gets done, but hope it doesn't go that far. Im on my way up there soon. Let the battle begin!

^they are going to offer to fix it by bondo.

i think you're being a little to anal. it happens. a big fucking giant mechanical claw grabs the tire and pulls off the bead/seal.

its going to cost you more in time and frustration to bring it to their attention than what its worth.

to be fair, it's on the lug nut area , not the rim itself

so, is the frustration of argument and time worth a little touch up paint!?

to me, no.
i'd touch up the lug nut area and be done with it, as most likely the lug nut area will get scuffed up again.

and this article is worth a read:

Well it went better than expected. The manager said to buy an new wheel and bring in the receipt and he will reimburse me. I was really surprised he cared and wanted to help me. Now the thing is that the company uses a darker color so a new wheel won't match... So my thoughts are... Buy new set and have them reimburse for 1 and sell the old set to make some money back. Have them install all 4 rims for free due to it being there fault me having to replace all the wheels. What would you do?

Or.. be a grateful SOB and not bite the hand that feeds you! They're willing to pay for a new wheel, that's already GREAT!

I'd sell the old set like you mentioned, buy four new wheels, and pay for installation myself, with these guys to give them a chance to redeem themselves (and hopefully not scratch these wheels too)

congrats at getting a new wheel over a chip that will happen again.

remember, the first cut is always the deepest.

Thank you, and that wheel not only has the chip, but also has a long scrape around the wheel that ruined the clear coat. So maybe the chip you can touch up but not a long scrape. Thanks again everyone.

OP if you are concern about the wheel not matching, then why not (after you have spoken to the manager and are in an agreement) take it to and wheel repair shop of your choice and have them reimburse you.

sucks to hear that happened OP.

i think the 4 wheels and everything would be much more of a hassle. i would repair it or have them give you credit for something in the future. wheels will always get chipped up, but then again we don't know what your long scrape looks like.

things like this happen all the time and i guess you can't really do anything. you get what you pay for.

+1000

It's astonishing how many customers come to us for wheel/tire installs because they are afraid of what the local big box tire shop will do with them. Our mechanics have 20+ years of experience and take their time to ensure everything is installed properly. We also have the latest Hunter Auto34/RoadForce mount and balance machines to make sure things go smoothly.

First, make sure the manager knows the cost so he doesn't try to flake out later on, and get it in writing before you put your own money to buy it.
Also, if they pay for 1 rim, the cost of 3 more will be at least $800 from dealer?
You can sell yours for maybe 5-600. So out of pocket expense is still at least 2-300. Is that scratch worth the cost to you? If it is, great!

I'd also tell him about your plan to buy a completely new set and have him pay for one of the set.

Costco scratched mine years ago. Complained, company asked for a quote from the dealer to repair. Got a check in the mail a couple of weeks later.

Don't take advantage of it. Ask for it to be repaired or replaced and move along.

Its Done

So i did go to the only wheel repair place in my area to hopefully have Belle Tire pay to repair it, but they told me that will not be able to match the color and they don't want to do the job knowing i won't be happy (Really Nice People). Funny thing is that I showed up there the same time as another guy who was sent there from the same Belle Tire to repair his damaged wheel that was even worse than mine when removing the tire . I do finally have it worked out now with the Manager that he is going to reimburse the $150 i paid for that wheel. He promised this will never happen again and always ask for the Senior Tech anytime you come in and you will never experience anything like this with us again! I feel fortunate to have had dealt with a manager that really cares to receive my business in the future and to make the customer happy. Thanks everyone for your input. It has been not even week since getting the TL out of winter storage, and i'm ready to enjoy it

As for 0utl, glad to hear your problem got fixed. Hopefully their work will match the color close enough.

How is that fraud? It's not. They're reimbursing him for the damage done to the old wheel by giving him the money for a new one. He'll then have two wheels sitting there and it's up to him what he does with them. They aren't buying the wheel for him, he's buying it with his own money and they're going to pay him back.

Buying and returning wheel so you can collect their money... I'm pretty sure that's fraud. But I'm no lawyer.

Well i didn't have to buy and return the wheel. I flat out told the manager I do not want one odd color wheel nor do i want to buy all 4 because of your mistake. So i said pay me for what i paid for the wheel, and either ill fix it myself or find somewhere that can. So he knew I wasn't buying a wheel. He was pretty understanding, and it worked out to get some type of compensation.

Wait wait TL Type S wheels only cost $150 a corner? Damn. Here I am putting myself in the story thinking about a tire shop damaging wheels worth twice as much. Wonder what the manager would have said then. "Yeah these are authentic Work wheels discontinued in 2001. Unless you can find me 1 Work VS-MX in 18in then you'll owe me four matching brand new Work wheels... that's about $4grand thank you!"
