Question Is there much whp diff from 04-06 6spd and type S?

I ask because i saw a vid of 05 6spd on youtube with Injen intake do 13.9@99. Any Type S folks evey run 04-06 spd cars with a good driver at the track? What was the difference in time. Did the non type S beat you on some runs and you beat him?

The '04 and '05 TL's were rated at 270 HP. In '06, method by which horsepower was factored was changed so the ratings dropped to 258. The TL-S came out with 271 HP in '07 as I recall. Had it been rated under the same method used for the '04 and '05, it would probably have come in around 298 HP.

In actuality, quarter mile times don't seem to reflect this increase much because, I suspect, of added weight. I did drive a TL-S manual and it didn't have any more throttle response than does my '04. However in all fairness, I did not get into it with that TL-S.

The HP dyno curves for each are on VTEC. Having both currently the difference is not that dramatic as far as straight line acceleration. I would suspect the TL-S is technically quicker. You are just not talking about that much difference and FWD just does not launch very cleanly so a driver could make the difference.

FWD cars are notorious for having poor traction, especially when compared to RWD platforms. So launching becomes even more difficult.

IIRC, the 04-06 6MT puts down about 230 to the wheels.
the 07-08 type-s Auto puts down about 230 to the wheels.

Sounds like someone has a type s ...
I dont think anyone is trying to "downplay" the Type S. I think it was more of just a question!

Hmmm, didn't know that plus the speed limiter? = Failed attempt at scaring day to day base TL drivers around town. Who else is aware of such information...I say all Auto Type S drivers get together and bury such conspiracies so no one else finds out

But on a serious note you're telling me I'm = to an 04 TL 6mt in my Auto Type S?

Yes, because of drive train loss.
you do have the bigger engine but the auto tranny eats up a lot of that power.

the 04-06 base 6MT is IIRC a 100 pounds lighter due to the tranny.
and not that big of power loss to the wheels, also due to the tranny.

stock vs stock = same.
once you start modding the bigger engine will out perform.

Ya i race auto type s all day and beat them cause of gearing diferences but a 6mt is a different story.

Base=258hp @ the crank.
Type-S=286hp @ the crank.

28hp difference, at the crank.

I have 2 friends who have manual 05 and 06 base while I have an auto Type S, and I beat them about a car length to 60mph, and this is stock vs stock. I suspect after putting on the Jpipe, I'll probably leave them behind.

type-s is a newer car. And I am sure that 05-06 doesn't perform as well as when it was new. But I did read somewhere on this site that stock 05 6MT did have the same WHP as an auto type-s.

I think you gues are misunderstanding me. I know the stats of these cares but I'm asking because this guys TL 6speed is 4tenths quicker than a stock Type S all because he added a CAI. Thats not gonna pass the stock hp of the stock Type S so is the 04-06 lighter? Is the RL 3.5 heavier than the 3.2?

So thats makes your car about 1 tenth quicker which proves the point I'm making. The 258hp 04-06 (2008 hp rating changes), must be putting out more power than Honda put on. I'm not doing tjhis to prove who's better. I'm just saying it seems as those folks that want a Type S and can't afford it, a 04-06 6 speed would definitely be a great Plan B. These are both great cars in their own right. These vids are proof. I canm tell you guys that don't know. Tjhe 6 spd J32 combo is very impressive. My stock CL-S6 ran 14.371@97.8mph. Theres a vid of another 05 TL 6spd ran 3 runs 14.3/14.5/14.5 which is impressive for the 258hp TL.

Type S is a little faster. That's basically all there is too it. Take into consideration driver ability and the numbers could skew in either direction.

^no, even with my arrogance this thread is not useless.
it shows what Parasurfer was trying to say.
that the 04-06 6mt is a great 2nd choice to a type-s, if you cant afford one.

All three variations of the TL, base,6mt and type-s' are no slouches. they all get down to the end of the line about the same time.
+ or - a few tenths.

*edit
but the base 6mt did come with an extra goodie that the auto type-s did not.
anyone care to guess!?

why should anyone fight over this? is anyone fighting yet or being rude? Are you mad over something that you cant control yourself? People are adults here. If you cant control yourself by this age, don't comment otherwise please voice in.

The TL 6spd's come with an LSD where the auto Type S and base do not. Also like said before they are +/- 100lbs lighter. Its slightly an unfair question to ask to begin with. You would have to find a 04-06 base 6spd/auto and a 07-08 type s 6spd/auto with the same miles and same driving cond and then dyno them to prove anything.

My comment was at the people that were all butt hurt saying this is trying to "down play" the type s, which this is not.

I have an 07 TL-S 6SPD with the mods shown I have no doubt I'd take a 6SPD 3.2. Though like people are saying the Auto TL-S is definitely equal to that of an 04-06 TL 3.2 6SPD.
I used to own a 3.2 auto with my mods, it was freakin quick for an auto, I took the exact mods you see on my car off my old TL and put them on my 07-S manual. It was no competition. My Gtech device would say I could get a 14.4 with my AUTO! Amazed. I'd need to go to a track though to see if that was 100% legit. Of course I'm comparing the Auto TL Base though. Technically the TL-S should be faster with more HP. But they both are fantastic cars. I loved my base as much as my Type S. Just when I had a base I knew I wanted the extra ponies and performance as well as being able to shift at my own will.

I think we are talking stock against stock. 04-06 6spd compaired to 07-08 Type S auto/6spd. HP not speed.
From what i have read and to sum it up... the base 04-06 6spd has the same as an auto type s due to loss from the trans and the 6spd type s will have more hp then the base... Correct?

The guy who posted that time is a member on Azine. I believe his name is Type-S-09 or something of the sort. He pulled spectacular numbers even while stock. After a while, he supercharged his TL and posted a 13.2@107mph running 4psi.

Don't over complicate it. Stock for stock:
5AT Type-S > 5AT Base.
6MT Base > 5AT Type-S.
6MT Type-S > 6MT Base.

I've seen a stock 6MT base model pull on 3 different stock 5AT Type-S'. About 1.5 cars each time.

You may or may not have gotten an answer as I can almost assure you most Auto TL Type S owners first focus wasn't performance when they bought their cars me included =). It was more Luxury with a touch of performance for the everyday grocery hauling. I can't speak for MT Type S owners but I just don't see them saying to their wives or girlfriends "hunny you can take my 6spd limited slip 286hp sports/sedan to visit your parents 600 miles away."

Is a car length at 60 mph really 1/10th of a second?

I've never understood auto vs manual comparisons... Who doesn't know a auto is slower especially when we're talking about such a small engine size difference.

And if you're talking about doing the comparison to figure out which to buy, most people don't shop that way. Most people figure out the main thing they want and just look for that. If I want a 6 spd manual I'm not even contemplating a auto Type S. I would either look for a cheap Type S 6 spd and if I couldnt find it just get a base 6 spd and just mod it up. And if I preferred the look of the Type S but wanted a cheap 6spd then I would just a conversion like all the people on this site which isn't hard.

Exactly! That's why my wife and I got the auto and cuz she didnt want to deal with the mt in traffic. But yes I'll be getting a 6 spd next year because regardless of traffic I'm a little more performance minded with my own vehicles. However the last part I can't agree with. LOL! When I get my 6 spd I'll let my wife drive it just because she's able to. It wouldn't be the learning car. LOL
