Are there any problems with 07/08 Type-s Transmissions? Auto or Manual?
I have a 01 CL Type-S that had 3 transmission replaced by Acura and is having Its 3rd Rebuilt (4 tranny failures) as we speak cuz acura feels I am responsible for there faulty product. I was talking to my girl about getting a 07/08 TL type-S and she said her co-worker has 1 and she blew her trans.
She said it was manual and she said her friend said there is a law suit against Acura cuz the trans are bad.. I don't belive her but she swears her co-worker keeps telling her this, and with all the trans problem i had i am starting to think this might hold water.
My question is are there any law suits agains the tl type-S transes auto or manual. I know the 01-03 5 speed auto trannies had this problem and ther was a class action law suit.
My other question was DID anyone whom has a type-s have a tranny go bad auto or manual or have you guys heard of trannies going bad?
The last thing I wanna do i buy anouther car w/tranny problems!

the 3rd gen Tl transmissions have been rock solid for the most part. The early third gens had some issues but were resolved on the 05+ models. the TL-S has a different transmission altogether (probably the one from the RL, modified for FWD) and has been flawless. Some people here complain about grade logic, but they get over it very quickly as the car adapts to your driving (Auto Only). After honda's rep. for auto transmissions, AT owners replace their fluid every 30K 3x3 method or one drain and refill every other oil-change. That keeps the trans very happy!
The only issue with the 6MT has been the third gear harshness, which acura issued a revised 3rd gear set (04-06TL), corrected on 07+ TL-S's and as well new fluid at no charge to help the issue before the gear set change. Most people here before the revised gear-set used GM Synchromesh fluid and that solved their issues.
About the co-worker, she probably mis-shifted and screwed up her trans/motor. There's no way you can just "blow" a trans without mis-shifting, esp a manual one.
About the lawsuit, there was one for the 01-03 TL/CL transmissions where they would be warrantied for up to 108K miles and some extra amount of years.

I have an 08 TL-S with the auto, I haven't had any issues, and it's got over 9k miles on it now. Shifts fine. I do plan on doing the 3x3 fluid change at 30k miles though, I'm not taking an chances. I'd rather change the fluid twice as often than spend $3k on a new trans.

I have an 07 Type S automatic. Transmission is perfect and it shifts very nicely. I actually like this tranny in the type S MUCH more than when I had my 07 base. The 07 base downshifted hard when you would slow down to like a light. Got kind of annoying.
The Type S downshifts as well obviously but its much less intrusive and just all around feels better.

Care to elaborate? was it auto or manual? Wonder what could have happaned at only 5000 miles?!?!? Does he beat the shit out of the car or is he an adult that drives cars normally? If the latter, sounds like it came new with something defective.

BUT my girl said her friend had a 07 type-s ( I asked her a few times to make sure she knew what she was saying and she has a 06TL so she knows her cars) and said her friends tranny on her 07Type-s went bye bye and her friend knew a few others with the TL type-s with tranny go bad thats why im asking..

same here. 08 TLS auto no problem. However a friend's brother has a trans replacement after 30 K. Let's just say he beat the living F out of the car. I abuse my car maybe twice a mont. I would go as far as 6K rpm. Now would that cause problem to my trans?

only time will tell... the redesign of the transmission in the later years of the TL does seem more robust.

Thats what I though , I knew ACURA could not make the transmission mistake AGAIN!
I was just checking cuz I mentions something about selling my CL-S after the tranny get fixed and getting a TL-S 6 speed then she went on about her friend blew her tranny and she knows like 10 other people that blew there tranny on there type-s and there is a lawsuit happening, but i thought she was wrong. I told he the only way that she blew her tranny was downshifting from like 5th to 4th and shifting to 2nd by mistake but she was insistant that I was wrong and the tl type-ses had tranny problems..
You guys know how it is with women just nod yes hun yes hun cuz no matter what I said I was wrong cuz my tranny suck so that means that the next car I buy is also gonna have a tranny problem!

I Really wanted a RL or infinity M35X but after all these tranny problems I wanted a manual car and the only manual that I would like is a TL-S that way we were talking bout it. I prob will just end up going with a 06 RL.

Definitely a factory defect of some sort.
My buddy is out of town for a few more days. I'll try to get more info on the tranny when he returns.

The tranny in my 07 TL-S 5MT was replaced at 7,500 miles. The tranny shifted fine but it developed a leak at the front and rear seals. Instead of fixing it, they simply replaced the tranny outright.

The TL-S's manual transmission has had ZERO issues! don't get a much slower and larger car, and esp don't kill your feelings for an MT! You're going to keep this car for a while, make a wise decision!

Yes I do keep my cars for awile (had my CL since 2000) and I fell in love with the 04 TL when it came out untill the 05RL came out and thet was my new found love, for some reason i LOVE the look and the Interior look and all the gadgets. I dont need a super fast car, speed is fun but can get u in trouble.
I am starting a family soon also , so I wanted something SAFE and ROOMY and I love this board and i Loved the service I got from my acura DLr's around me so wanted to stick to acura , but with my last problems made me think twice but prob will stay in the family.. The SHAWD is also nice being i live in north jersey and the winters are rough.. Well I just got my car back w/rebuilt tranny so hopefully it holds up for e couple more years but we will see!

I have 12k on my 5at TL-S and no problems, I absolutely love it. I am a service advisor for acura and have not seen one sigle problem out of an 07 or 08 TL-S AT transmission,
however we have rebuilt one 6speed gear set at 45K.
As for an RL my wife has an 06 and she loves it, great for a family.

Got 40k on my tranny (08Type S AT) and sometimes in sports mode it would shift from 3rd to 4th automatically.. also the number would blink.. I also noticed from a dig in sports mode it would rev to 5500rpm's then sputter.. I think I have a tranny prob..

Now when I drive a car that doesn't do that, I end up flying right up to the stop sign and having to slam on the breaks.
