Theft rate of TL

I just read an article on CNN talking about how the Escalade and Maxima are the most stolen cars. I'm wondering how the TL ranks with respect to theft. I have one on order and am wondering if this is a cause for concern. On the Maxima they mentioned that the headlights are the most often stolen.

Actually according to most sources and the Insurance Institute, the TL has a low rate of theft (complete car, not just headlights). Insurance rates are normally low (for the comprehensive part)- the rest is dependent on liability and age of the driver. If you look at the list of most stolen cars, most in the list are older cars, such as Camrys and Accords/ Civics (which I assume means they are used primarily for parts in chop shops). I see the source you are reviewing- here it is for anyone interested (it is a list for cars 2000-2002)

i heard it's a high rate but then again when i compared the price for insurance for 05 Nissan sentra 1.8 s the sentra was more and IM not talking a lil more a lot more
i had 2002 TL Type s no navi insurance was cheap even when the lights were getting taken out on this model i haven't see any lights been taking out on the 2004 they redid the lights and made it much hard for these rotten people to take our lights but IM sure if a good pro wants something he gonna get it my 2002 got picked at but my upgraded alarm save the day or should i say night TL a very safe car and you will see good insurance rates and IM pretty sure the 2005 TL gonna have a better rate then the 2004 being that they made the car a lil more safe too bad they didn't add anything nice in but IM sure the lil money it saves us on the insurance extra gas money lol

The Dodge Intrepid is on that list. I don't understand why that would be a frequently stolen car.

maybe its a car that is EASY to steal, it doesnt have to be desirable...

also, parts in certain cars may be more valuable in certain circles or coudl be used in other cars easier...

Easier cars to switch out the VIN's. Our car has the VIN # written all over the place. Makes it a harder car to chop.

Engines.. and parts..

It usally not the car they are looking at.. but how well you can place the engines into other cars, is why it's more marketable for them to sell parts of these cars. Honda is excellent example.. people were able to take the accord's engine and place it into a civic.. not sure about it any more.. so that's why accords were stolen more..

That makes sense. I remember 10-15 years ago a lot of the GM cars were being stolen because their ignition cylinders were easy to pop. Kids would steal them just to take a joyride.
