Tax Question for NC
Does anyone know the sales tax rate for autos in NC?
More specifically (assuming that local taxes may be added to the state tax rate) what would I pay if a car were purchased in the research triangle area (durham/cary/raleigh/chapel hill)?

That's right. You are still required to pay the taxes in your home state no matter where you buy the car. Either that or you need to have it registered in another state for some amount of time (and need residency there to do it) and then present proof of tax payment when you re-register it in your home state. The minimum length of time for out of state registrations probably varies by state.
I live in MA and bought my TL in RI. I paid MA tax at the dealer when I bought the car, not RI.

My question was vague. :p Let me rephrase.
I will be relocating to NC soon and so I am trying to determine whether to buy here in OH and take it down, or wait and buy when I get there.
I believe the sales tax rate here in OH is 8%. I am assuming this applies to cars as well.
Thanks.
