taking care of leather seats

my driver and passenger side seats both have butt prints (normal in the new TL?) how would i take care of my seats so the problem is eliminated or doesnt get worse.
Is there a special type of conditioner or any leather cleaning products would work?

what do you guys use on the seats and how often do you condition them?

thanks

If you have a Pep Boys near you, they also sell Lexol. I wouldn't have them do any service on a lawnmower, muchless a vehicle I own, but I'd buy Lexol from them.

Lexol really is GREAT for leather.

Remember to rub it in WITH YOUR HANDS! This is really important for proper results.

Lexol all the way. Just type it into google and you'll find all sorts of stores that sell it online.

Good point, Pug. Also, any quality leather shop will have it as well...and by leather shop, I don't mean a Wilson's Leather or any other store that just sells leather coats. I mean a real leather store that sells like leather skins.

Pick up both, The cleaner and the conditioner. I use it on my leather furniture in the house too.

butt prints seem to be normal in the TL. Someone posted they had like 5k miles, and they haven't gotten any worse. I have 1500 mi and mine look the same as they did after a few days. Pretty sure lexol won't make them go away, though worth using to keep the leather in good shape.

I've been using Lexol on my saddles for years and it's really the best product for leather conditioning and cleaning. You can also find it in tack shops, or mail order from State Line Tack:

http://www.statelinetack.com/slt/main.jsp

They have good prices - 1/2 L Pump conditioner or cleaner, MSRP $8.95, State Line price $6.99; full liter refill MSRP $13.95, SL price $8.99.

My local shoe repair store also sells it.

Has anybody found a way to remove the marks that some belts leave on the leather seats? I had these on my MDX and even through I've tried to be careful about what belts I wear when seated in my TL, I still have these marks along the back of the seat and some on either side. Nothing seems to remove them.

It seems that the new learther can be extremely susceptible to picking up colors from other dyed materials. I wore some new black jeans in my new car some years ago, and it stained the beige seats, and would NEVER come out, no matter what I did.

Just be careful! Maybe treating with Lexol in advance will help.

my seats started creasing too much for new seats. one dealer suggested using water and baby oil (whatever) and if that didn't work they'd order new leather. i'm pretty sure it's not about conditioning the leather, it's just getting a ****ty leather sample.

One thing about leather, and sometimes people seem to forget, is that is a natural product, and will show wrinkles, wear, and yes...butt prints. It's something that you just have to accept. If you don't like it, get a car with vinyl, it lasts forever, and never changes, even after years of use, it still looks crappy...lol. I love leather, and accept the flaws, and wear, etc., as part of the normal wear one would expect from a natural product. Look at your shoes.....they wear and show creases.....now would you rather have "plastic" shoes.....of course not!!

The flex is from the lack of firm filling. You'll notice that the seats are extraordinarily soft especially compared to the rock hard and uncomfortable Lexus seats. While making them more comfortable, they end up like a Temperpedic mattress.

Try 303 Aerospace... The best stuff I've ever used. It has excellent UV protection... It advertised for marine usage. So if it can protect salt water and sun on a boat imagine what it can do in protection on normal usage in a car...

Excellent comparison! This is one way in which these seats are different from any seats I've had in the past. They are very similar to the foam beds that have been swamping the info-mercial market lately.
