Syncromesh

Hi,

I know there is information on this but what can be substituted for the syncromesh tranny fluid for a 2006 mt?
I cant find the GM so what do people use nowadays, I dont want to have the tranny taken out to rebuild the 3rd gear.

Thanks Folks

Find a GM dealer and get the GM stuff if or buy some of it online. Don't waste your time or money on anything else.

It sounds like you're in the same boat I was in...I could not find the GM stuff for the life of me. So I got the AC Delco stuff instead. After reading several threads on AZine, it sounds like the AC Delco stuff is the same as the GM fluid. I went to the AC Delco website, got the product code and looked up local retailers. I called around until someone could order it in for me.

(The Part # is 10-4014 88900399)

I was a little skeptical, but I've found this stuff is deservedly raved about by many on here.

When I had a Eclipse GST, I used Penzoil Synchromesh. It had the same product code as GM Synchromesh too. Could be found in any autozone or pepboys.

I saw the GM Synchromesh stuff at PepBoys as well, but it was NOT the Friction Modified formula. Big difference.

I just picked up some at the local Chevy dealer. They asked me what car it was for and I told them a Honda. They looked at me funny and went into the back and came out with it.

I originally had gotten mine from Pace and it was cheaper. I was too impatient this time.

So, since I didn't have this information earlier (my fault) will I be ok using the AC Delco stuff? I have read that it's the same thing, friction modified and everything.

I got mine from a local dealership for around $12 a quart. The first dealer I called didn't have any in stock but they were able to tell me which dealerships had it. I would try calling another GM (Chevy preferably) dealer and see if they can at least track some down for you if they don't have it in stock.

I can't vouch for the AC Delco version but I believe Redline or Amsoil would be good alternatives if you can't find the GM Synchromesh Friction Modified.

I read a thread where someone compared the Amsoil stuff directly with the GMSMFM and said that the Amsoil could not even compare...

I guess I just hope the AC Delco stuff really is the same, b/c I don't feel like buying 3 more quarts of tranny fluid.

+1...twice the price as I posted from Pace. IIRC, occasionally Pace puts it on sale for around $12/qt. and throws in free shipping, but I haven't seen it lately. Hopefully I'll remember that site in a few years, next time I should need it.

Here's the best price at $9.84/qt. Plus shipping is pretty cheap and they have a very easy price quote when you add to cart.... :P

Huh? Shipping is only $8.

Comes out to $11.50/qt for 3 quarts or $10.43/qt for 5 quarts.

Still the cheapest price I've seen yet.

Doesn't beat the link posted earlier by danny25 ($8.83) and their shipping is more (not by much, but more).

But good finds from both of you. Thanks for the links!!
