Syncing Garage to Homelink

Has anyone successfully synced their Homelink with the garage? I've followed the instructions in the manual but have been unsuccessful. Just wondering if this worked for anyone or if other people have had problems as well.

If you have a garage-door opener with rotating frequencies, there's a different procedure.

yup it was a piece of cake. remember to clear the memory first before you try syncing. it took a couple of tries to get it to sync but it works like a charm.

Procedure worked for me. I asume you're having problems because your garage door uses a rolling code?

It's helpful if you have someone help you. The key for me was waiting until the garage unit light blinked rapidly confirming that it worked.

If you have a opener with a "rolling code" you have to hit the "reset" button on the door opener unit first....THEN follow the directions for setting the homelink button.

Enjoy!

Clear the homelink first, then reset the garage door opener, usually only have 30 sec to program after the reset.

Yes clear the memory and then go with the procedure where it sayd to disconnect the power for the garage door unit. I tried a lot and was successful with the procedure where it tells you to disconnect the cable. I've a Ginnei with rolling codes.

IMO, I believe Homeline website has more detailed guideline. Better than our manual.

My garage opener is one of those Craftsman Liftmaster models. After I cleared the homelink memory in the car, I proceeded to program the homelink. I tried first holding the homelink button down while pressing the remote of the garage opener. When I realized that I need to train the rolling code, I went over to the opener unit (no I didn't disconnect the power coz that's a pain and makes it harder to test if the programming worked) and pressed a button (on the Liftmaster it's a square red button) designated as the TRAIN button. A little light comes on and I had 30 secs to train the homelink. I went to the car and held down the homelink button until the indicator light stopped blinking. (The light of the garage opener blinked off for a sec or two to indicate that the training was successful.

I tested it right after that and now I use my homelink daily. The clip on the garage opener leaves marks on the shades.

Hope this helps you.

it worked for me. My procedure:
- clear the homelink on the TL
- sync with the remote per the directions in the owner's manual
- press the "learn" button on the side of the garage door opener
- hold down the homelink button on the TL until the garage door opener light blinked

I have a Sears garage door opener.

Call the number in the manual for HomeLink. It worked for me using Security+.

if you hold buttons 1 and 3 you will clear all the memory. but you do not need to clear all the buttons. just clear the one you are trying to program for.

If you go thru all the steps in the manual (rolling code procedure or not) and it still doesn't work, try replacing the battery in your garage door opener remote. I had two previous cars with Homelink and didn't have trouble programming for a rolling code opener, but just couldn't get it to work with the '04 TL and I was frustrated as could be. I contacted Homelink by phone, we went through all the procedures I'd gone thru at least a dozen times before and it still didn't work. The tech suggested that I try replacing the battery in the remote -- after that it programmed the very first time.

Good luck!

Yep, I also had to replace the batteries to get mine to work.

I finally got around to trying to sync the homelink to the garage and it worked just as the manual describes. Thanks for all the suggestions on this thread.

I guess my girlfriend was doing something wrong when we originally tried to program. She was in the car pressing the homelink buttons while I stood on a chair to press the Garage's training button. I tried it again by myself and it worked just fine. Thanks again.

I found the instructions in the Quick Start to be more accurate or easier to follow for the rolling code opener than the regular manual. The '02 was much easier, the '04 there was an extra step I think - one of those things once you do it, out of my mind completely.
