Suggestions for a tint shop in Nothern VA?

Hi All,

New TL-S owner here.. (love it!).. haven't taken pictures yet so none to post. However, I am looking for places to get the window tint done. I'm located in Northern VA and I have found a few places but I figured I would come on here to see if anyone from VA has any suggestions / recommendations.

In addition, I know VA is 50% on front two, 35% on rear... for those who are in VA/traveled through.. did you get bothered a lot if they were lower? 50% is not worth the time... :-\

Thanks

I grew up and went to high school near Leesburg. I had one of my old cars tinted at L.A. Tint in Sterling and they did a fantastic job. IIRC it came with a lifetime warranty too. I had it tinted to the legal limit at the time, but I dont' seem to remember them having a problem with doing it darker than normal. Definitely check them out, I was impressed... they had just finished up a Ferrari when I brought my car in for my appointment.

Reasonable price too, I think I paid ~$295 for the whole car.

sorry monkey, we all live in VA so we pay more. i bet you drive 2004 black tl. i've seen you around. btw i like your nav hack haha

BTW Expresee Tint in Centreville area for 220. i had both of my cars done there, G35 (RIP) and current 08 TL S Black. The guys were nice enough to squeeze in the small rear window edges so it looked normal just by asking them.

I am also considering getting tints in the NOVA area. I found Driven Dynamics who is a vendor on this board will do it for $170. However they don't install moleskin.

Has anyone gotten tints at driven dynamics without moleskin? How do you like it, and does it scratch?

Thanks for the info.

Stupid question, so I apologize ahead of time. Is this something the tint shops have already or do you have to order it, take it with you, and ask for them to install it?

Hey Romeo8Juliet, I'm in NoVa and also in the market for tints some time in the coming months. When you get your tints, pls post your experiences and options with what you end up with. Thanks!

They usually have it, make sure to check with them first. If they doesn't, you can order it here.

Don't forget to post some pics after the tint is complete

Seeing that you live in Fredericksburg area you know of and have traveled route 1. If you go north into woodbridge there is a Tint Shoppe (real name) right across the street from Karen Radley Acura. They gave me a pretty good deal 235 for 5% all the way around. Still have not been pulled over by the laws. But good luck with this and congrats on the new whip.

Thanks for the tip. I'll be back down there tomorrow actually.. It's where I bought my TL at, oddly enough. I'll have to see if I can find it.

Thank you

Hey, if that shop is willing to give discounts on multiple cars. I'll get the tints with you, and a friend of mine also maybe.

I'll ask and see... if I can find it.. I had a hard enough time getting down there the first time.. but I have navi now.. so I should be good. I'll be there for a good hour or so so I'll have to ask them about it.

If you find any other shop in NoVA that would do discounts, let me know.. I'd be up for that.. I know maybe another person that would do it.. so it's 3, if not 4.

I got mine done at driven dynamics without moleskin and have no scratches.
i also waited a week to roll down my window cause i'm paranoid like that. but no, no scratches.

it took them 90 minutes exactly and they were very friendly and the shop is a chilled place with a huge flatscreen loved it and i'm recommending to all my friends.

i got 20% done all the way around

moleskin or felt = neccesary

f^ it.. i paid $400 to have my tints done at Acura before i took delivery of the car

on my 06 TL, i got it done at a local place i've used on all my other cars for like $175... and my tints looked terrible.... they were scratched to death in like 8 weeks... the rear quarter window wasnt done right... the rear windshield (which is REALLY TOUGH on this car to tint) didnt look perfect...

dealership does it right......atleast at Rallye

I don't think anyone here mention to get the moleskin after you tint your windows otherwise you'll end up with scratches on your tint. There are tint shops that will install this for you however they say it's better to install it after you tint your windows because they use so much water. http://www.automoleskin.com/groupbuy.htm

Ok, so I wanted to make sure no one mentioned moleskin and it looks like "sportsjunkie" did. Well I didn't install moleskin when I got my windows tinted and they were totally fine for a good 5 months. Then the sun really started to come out which is rare for Seattle and obviously rolled my windows down a lot more and before I knew it I started to see hairliine scratches on my window. I brought it back to the shop because I had a lifetime warranty and they said "it's not their fault because something must be stuck in your door jam". Needless to say I was pissed and looked on the forum and discovered I should've purchased the moleskin. Sorry to make this so long but I don't want you guys to go through the same thing that I did.

Good luck and congrats on the ride!

I've had one car tinted at L.A. Tint in Woodbridge and had my other car done at The Tint Shop in Woodbridge. Tint shop will charge less.. But L.A. will do a better job. There is also a guy out your way called the tint king. He does pretty good work for cheap as well. If your worried about being messed with then go with 35% all round. Thats what I did. Ive Been pulled over for everything else in the world but that.

I can't remember where I got my 96 TL tinted but they did 20% all the way around for a good $250. I recently bought a 05 TL and am looking for tint shops also!

I live in Woodbridge/Dale City area and as for getting pulled over...if you get stopped for anything, and I mean anything at all, they will check your tint on both the front and back.

Express Tint in Centerville, VA

I have used Express Tint in Centerville also. have done 2 cars with them. My TL is having issues with lines in the tint so I am taking it to them this next week to have it evaluated for warranty issues. Have had the tint for 4 years but they say Acura are notorious for having vertical lines show up on door window tint jobs based on the tightness of the door panels and window guides. I will let you know what they tell me but expect it to be replaced based on our phone conversation,
