Stress Crack - Windshield

Got into my car this morning and noticed a crack in the windshield on the passenger side starting at the top edge of the windshield 6 inches in from the corner and running about 6-7 inches diagonally toward the bottom center of the windshield. Have no other idea how it happened other than a stress crack. I called the dealership and was told it would be covered under warranty as long as there is no sign of a stone mark or chip. There is nothing I can see. In fact I am not sure if it is cracked all the way through. Its hard to see looking in from the outside but very easy to see looking out from the inside. I am taking it in next week. Will keep you posted.

Until then try cleaning the area where the crack is and examine it thoroughly with a good light and a magnifying glass. Check to make sure there is no signs of an impact from a rock. Your dealer will definately be doing this.

I would also inspect the windshield with the dealer by your side. Verify that there are no chips or stone marks, get it in writing that they are replacing your windshield, and then sign the work order. Otherwise, I would hate to see an unethical dealer purposefully "chip" the glass to make you pay for the replacement.

yes, I think it's stress related. Everytime I exit my driveway SLOWLY at an angle (otherwise it will touch bottom) I can hear the whole car twisting pretty bad.

If your dealer refuses to replace it, some insurance companies offer glass replacement and waive the deductable. Mine does

I meant to include to check with your insurance company as it might cover glass. I wasn't gloating about my insurance.

Me also......

And I will agree they will look at it with a magnifier. They got out a 25X scope to view the crack. On mine you could see a VERY SMALL pit on the edge of the crack. Said rock hit it..... not covered.

After complaining for a bit, they agreed to pay half of my deductible. Not completely satisfied, but do not want to waste my time arguing over the matter.
