I know a guy that started a thread like this on an Audi board for a hit and run. As it turns out the guy posted on the audi board for any info, and someone posted in the thread saying he was there when the hit and run happened and actually witnessed it! small world... What are the odds that a witness would post at the same forum. While this doesn't help you find your car, hopefully it is a little encouraging...

good luck...

Thanks guys for keeping your eyes open for it.

I have a lien against the title, so he cannot get a new one without the lien removed. We met on a Saturday because that was the only day I had off, and we met at night. Everything seemed right except when I asked for his driver's license and he "left it" in the car that dropped him off. We were by the Water Tower Place, and the outdoor cameras did capture him on tape.

He's an African-American, in his late 40s-early 50s, 5'9"-5'10", 230lbs, tattoo on his left forearm, glasses

I filed a police report in Chicago last week, and I spoke with my adjuster (I have full coverage). The insurance company will be handling the matter as theft and they will be conducting their own investigation lasting from 15-30 days. They said they would give me the NADA value for what a dealership would sell the vehicle for.

I liked the idea of checking carfax!! I'll do that

Yeah if he attempts to sell the car to a dealership/someone else etc. Carfax should pick it up but then again like someone else said if they do a VIN # swap your screwed 8 ways to sunday.

I never trusted in the past either. This is not a trust issue. It's a business transaction gone bad. Sorry to say, but if this transaction was done correctly, this would never have happened. My sympathy goes out to the victim though. I hope you get this resolved.

Though it's a hard pill to swallow, I 100% agree with you. I was too eager to sell to see the little tell-tale signs that the deal was going bad

Update

The Chicago Police found my car and impounded it. I have to ride down there today and look at the vehicle. They said that it's driveable, however I have to have it towed since i don't have the keys >.<

They matched up the last 6 digits of the VIN, the vehicle was impounded 2 days after I sold it (on the 15th), yet NO ONE CALLED ME!!!! Though I did report the car stolen on the 19th, you would think the cops would've been like "oh, it looks like your car is in the impound lot"

Did they arrest the guy driving it?......How'd they get into the car to see the VIN #? Where was the car found?

so many unanswered questions...

By now, you should have seen the car, right? Does it look damaged in any way? Anything missing? I wonder if the insurance will still pay anything if there's nothing wrong with the car.

VIN is also on your windshield. the vin is in many locations, but the windshield is probably the one id go by. its riveted in, and any other part can be replaced at a junkyard..

The police found it on Sept 15th, 1 day after I "sold" the car to the guy. It was towed from 6145 S Wolcott Chicago,IL....from what the guys at the impound lot said, it was found in the Hood! lol...they said from Gold Coast (Michigan ave) to the hood

As far as I know, there were no arrests. Here are some pics from the impound. there was some minor damage..but can I replace the front bumper and Aspec it?

Looks minimal damage but it looks like he could have driven over something causing some damage under the car. Get it checked out and make sure the alignment is in check.

So now the car is a stolen recovery car....Is that now going to come up on the carfax? It will be very hard to sell it with that on there. Glad to see you got the car back.

Yeah, the whole situation is bizarre, why go through all that trouble for one day? Isn't it easier to test drive one or just steal one off the street??

Yeah, it should show up as the a stolen recovery. Dude aren't you happy you got your car back? So the big question what are you aiming to do now? sell, keep or trade in?

UPDATE

I got off the phone with the insurance company and they dispatched a tow truck this morning to bring it back to the Acura Dealership. The adjuster will be there to look at it and get the estimate for the new keys and to fix the damage. However, it is still "mine" and now I just have to try to sell it again!

The reason I was selling in the beginning is I have an opportunity to move to Manhattan and I really don't want a car there.
