Stolen TL in Atlanta (TL theft ring involved)
Hey all,
My TL was stolen and involved in a high-speed chase in Atlanta (I-20 and Six Flags) on Oct 24.
After using a Mobileguardian tracking system, the police were able to give chase and apprehended the 2 individuals involved. However, the car is a total loss.
The reason that I'm writing this posting is to let ALL the 3rd gen TL owners that there is a car theft ring in the Atlanta Metro Area that has MASTER KEYS for the Acura TL. I know this because the officers wrote in the reports that the individuals stated "the were a part of a ring and have master keys to the TLs". These master keys enable the thiefs to enter the car without activating the alarm.
Please keep vigilante of your cars!
Ed Britt
BTW if anybody knows where I can purchase a GREEN 2004/2004 TL with camel interior, please let me know!!

Ouch!
DGP/Camel/6MT's are very rare!
There's only a couple of hundred or so in existance for both '04 and '05 COMBINED with Nav.
Anybody's guess how many there are w/o. Your problem is compounded by the fact that DGP is discontinued for'06.
Good Luck .............

Hey Dan,
My car was parked at my office (3200 Windy Hill Rd) ... the Wild Wood office complex in Marietta. It was taken from a covered parking deck with security.

05 Green/Parchment 6sp NAVI
Saw your note. Sorry to hear about your loss.
I live in eastern PA, and almost purchased a 2005 Green/Parchment 6 sp. NAVI with 14k at Piazza Acura of Reading PA.
It is certified and at a firm $31,000. They had the vehicle there two weeks ago, and may still be there.
Super clean vehicle, with absolutely nothing wrong. No dents/scratches, etc. and a non-smoker.
They have a web site: www.readingacura.com

Simon,
Yep, that was the car...........it was on 2, 5, and 11. Top speed in the chase was 142 mph......on I-20!!!!!
As for buying a 2006.......I just might. I've located a manual green TL...but they want 32,600 for a 2004 TL with 23000 miles on it.
Going out today and looking to see what's on the lots.

Hmmm, wonder how much it would cost to put a personal "boot" on it.

Just to make this clear there is no such thing as a master key for TL's or any car for that matter. I know this because I am a Locksmith and I deal with auto locks everyday. Not to mention I do all the work for the local Honda and Acura dealerships. Plus hondas/acuras have a transponder. Maybe they know someone at a dealership that can get them a key cut by code. Then they would have to input the Pin # that they are given with the key in order to program it to the car before it would even start up. But before they could do that they would need a tool that costs $7-10k. Just stating the facts.

damn thanks for the heads up. I usually park my car in the garage but there are daus I drive it to work. When I come home I sometimes park it in the driveway. Because its much easier to get my laptop bags in the house through the front door rather than trying to squeeze between the two cars in the garage. I'll park it in the garage all the time from now on.
I have been noticing that sometimes cars drive around in my neighborhood and circle around my cul-de-sac for no reason. sometimes my TL is in the driveway when they circle, and they take hard looks at it. Maybe they're scouting it.
If someone steals my car, I wouldnt want it back. The only thing I'd be concerned about is anything I might have in the car. My insurance would cover the loss and because I have positive equity in the car, I'll just take the insurance money and upgrade my ride.

True, but for a professional car theft ring $7-10k would be chump change.. They most likely have a smartly made programmer and software that quickly allows them to duplicate key codes and thus keys...
As "cars" get smarter so do the thieves....
As for Ed-Head, I would just be happy it's a "total". I know I wouldn't want my car back if stolen.
Sorry for your loss though.

Sorry for your loss, Ed. At least it was a "total".
We've had posts on this board in the past about professional car theft rings in Canada that somehow were obtaining copies of car keys for expensive imports. This sounds like the same.
I'm so glad I live in a place where GM is king! No one is interested in stealing Hondas or Acuras around here. If I had an '89 Olds Cutlass or a mid-late '90s Dodge Intrepid, I'd be very nervous...

Wow, I am in Atlanta frequently, but I guess they aren't targeting 2nd gens. I travel I-20 all the time and it is scary to think about any car at 142mph on that interstate.

Special-Ed,
The car was a "total" because during the high-speed chase, one of the GA State patrol cars was able to get in front of the car. Once he did this, the trooper stomped on the breaks ... instead of stopping, the guys driving my car tried to evade using the inside emergency land - to which they subsequently hit the median wall.
The entire left front of the car was demolished. The left front well rim is now in numerous pieces..and the wheel isn't even on the car. The driver side doors will not open, the left mirror is gone....etc.
The airbags went off....which unfortunatly saved the driver and his passenger.
*Sigh* that was one sweet ride, and I'm gonna miss it. BUT...now looking for a 06!!!

Aaaarrrggghhhh!
There ought to be a law where you (the owner of the stolen item) can have 30 minutes alone in a room with people like that after they're caught... Anything goes

Sorry to hear about your loss, dude. Even with "security" in our cars and at our work place, it still isn't enough to deter brazen thieves from getting what they want. Time to install the Trunk Monkey.

So ,I take it all you need is the VIN and someone at a Honda/Acura dealership to help you ? And if that is so, simply hiding your VIN from outside sight should deter this kind of thief ?

Acuravic,
I'm not quite sure about the cost of the Mobileguardian unit.....but I think that it was around $650.
It was brought from Ed Voyles Acura on PIB....and then an installer for Mobileguardian came to my work and installed the unit.
I called Mobileguardian CS at 1-877-227-0311 and inquired if I could purchase the unit directly from them when I purchase my new TL. They don't sell directly, but were able to give me the number of a gentleman who I could possibly purchase from.
I'd recommend calling Mobileguardian or visiting the website which is http://www.mymobileguardian.com/.
Sorry I couldn't help more
