Was this stock?

Hey guys,

I was looking around a bit and I just noticed I have not seen any TL's with a stripe down the side like mine.

I'm just curious as to if this was this installed by my previous owner or was this an option? If it was installed previously whoever did it did a hell of a job.

First pic was before A-Spec spoiler install.

When I worked at mini copper for a little while we used to
Call it "pin stripe" which we had a guy "install" which was basically him painting it on

Pinstripes were not OEM options.
Some car dealers had pinstripes added onto the TL; IDK if any owners did that.

Pretty cool I'm really glad it was put it on because I think it makes the car look even better.

Yeah it wasn't stock, but some dealers added it on their own. I personally noticed it's on a lot of the TLs with the camel / light interior, but I don't think they were limited to just those.

I don't think they are painted on, but instead a vinyl strip. Could probably remove with a heat gun if you ever wanted to.

On a side note I had a friend remove one off a 1992 mazda something and underneath was still original color while the rest of the car was slightly faded so it's pretty much permanent

The dealer I bought both my TL's from added a pin-stripe. I made 'em remove them before taking delivery. As well the dealer advert sticker on the rear end.

It depends on the body/paint person that put on the pinstripes-- some do like to paint the stripes.
Tape is much easier and thus more common-- I used tape to lay pinstripes on a couple of my former cars.

However, pinstripes just wouldn't work on my silver 3G TL.

I never liked the look of the pinstripes for the TL. The TL-S ones are even worse if you have ever seen them. Stickers in general don't belong on luxury vehicles and whoever was my first owner had an oval shaped bumper sticker that left a permanent mark on our bumper.

but... /rant

Honestly stickers in general make me RAGE on any car. This is one of the only ones I can deal with.

Don't even start on me on the rear windshield stickers you see on minivans of familys the amount of rage I feel when I see those is unfathomable.

pinstripe= dealer add on.

stickers on back window or bumper. bumper no-no shit on paint. back window-depends. i have one vinyl decal on the back of each car i own. it's small and discreet. the cute family stick figures or the oval stickers...pass. keep it clean. and if you go with a decal...keep it discreet and tasteful.

You need to learn to relax. Maybe stick to decaf.

I have one sticker on my car: it's the "Acurazine.com" sticker from the annual Xmas charity contribution thread that is on my clear license plate cover.

I've done the same thing when I've picked up a car at any stealership. My wife and I bought a brand new 08 Civic Si sedan, and when they pulled it up to the front for us, it had a dealer front license plate frame, rear license plate frame, and dealer stickers on the trunk. I told them to take them ALL off before we took possession of the car. I just don't like all the advertisement on my cars.

^^my dealer asked me if i wanted the frames on. i said no, you guys can recycle them. when i bought my TL, the tech was about to put them on. i said you can keep those. he looked at me like...uuhhh...but i...dude keep them, i don't want them on the car!

thankfully my dealer doesn't "badge" the cars they sell. only the frames.

I hate pin stripe, they may be looking good back on the early 90s but not anymore.

There's a reason why you haven't seen many TL's with a pinstripe here on the forums and out on the roads.

'Cause it's UGLY AS $%#@

But if it makes you feel better because you haven't seen any other TL's with pinstripes and you like it, than good for you. You'll grow out of it within a few months.

personally I think racing stripes down the middle of the car look the best, but the pinstripes look great too!

Yeah, sorry boss but I'm not digging on the pinstripe either. It's not grotesque, but to me, pinstripes are associated with cheaper, older american vehicles. You just don't see them much on nicer vehicles like BMW's, Merc's, Lexus, etc.

Same here. I don't mind the license plate frame until I find a nicer one....

When I bought my TL they had yet to stick the dealer advert sticker on the car. I told the dealer that when I came back in to pick my car and sign the paperwork that if they put one on there I was going to walk away and go buy one at another dealership. He laughed until he realized I was serious.
