Stinky

Not sure if this was already asked, and currently on my phone so i can't check, but what is the horrible smell after I do a little speeding in my 05 TL.
Smells like rotten eggs, anyone else have this problem?
is it just something getting real hot?
from the exhaust maybe?

Thanks

its your cat going or almost gone bad, its time to replace the clogged one. There is more than one but I do know its the cat thats smelling like that.

Im glad you asked this because my 07 TL-S does the same thing. Except its more of a burning smell like something is getting really hot. I got like 75 miles left on my bumper to bumper so may take it to the dealer tomorrow and see if they can check it out. It doesn't sound as bad as yours though as it smells like something really hot instead of rotton eggs and I smell it but its not ridiculously bad.

Rotten egg smell is sulphur. It's related to the calalytic converter (unburned fuel?? ). I've gotten it a couple times when I run the car hard - not often and it doesn't last.

Like previously stated, it's the cats - and no, they're not going bad, it's normal

Same thing was happening to my TL-S last week! Such a horrible sulfur smell it was! I took it to my Acura dealership's service department and they discovered it was my battery and thankfully not the catalytic converter. Apparently the fluid in my battery was really low therefore causing the occasional rotten egg smell. They replaced the battery and I have not smelled anything rotten since.

That is incorrect the cats are not going bad. Looks like some guys already corrected this with the right reason so I wont go into detail.

I didnt read all the replies in this thread but try a different brand of gas. I notice my car has the smell as well using a certain brand of gas but then I dont notice it with a different brand. Use only high quality premium fuels and you will be fine.

when i had my rv6 jpipe v2 put on, i had the smell come into the cabin that you were referring to. the person who installed it mentioned that the gasket had not broken in yet and that is why i had the smell come into the cabin

perhaps one of your gaskets are leaking? did you do any exhaust mods recently?

edit: mmmm thread revival

you get that sulfur like smell for a few reasons:

1. All the fuel that is being dumped onto the cats and that produces the smell. Here's a quick google quote on why it happens:

When the car is running lean the Catalyst among other things would build up of SO2 (Sulfur Dioxide) or SO3 Sulfur Trioxide. (more air than is needed to burn fuel ~ inbetween spirited driving).

As it builds up sulfates the moment your car is running rich (more fuel than air) -such as slowing down; the sulfates become unstable and react to form hydrogen sulfide - which gives you the ugly smell. Which is suppose to mean your cat is doing it's job.
2. The A/C shuts off: Also you get a bit of that smell because the A/C compressor shuts off when the car is reving hard. You'll notice the air get warmer immediately once you step on it. If your willing to waste some fuel, put the car in SS and get into the upper level RPM's in 2nd gear and you'll feel the air get warm coming out of the vents like the A/C shut off.

sounds like your cat, but there is a recall on the high pressure power steering hose that can leak onto your exhaust if you look behind the motor and down. Mine was, I was going to do it myself, but realized the hose was $140, so I went in to dealer for the recall (05 TL).

Vents?- Klima clean stinks, try a/c pro odor eliminator. Pull up the carpet on the passenger side and find the evap drain hose. pull it out of the floor and stick the hose up there and spray. Drains out minutes later and walla...
