Sticky Stuff on Hood. How to get it off?

OK, first paint issue on my '04.

A box flew up at my car while I was driving on the freeway recently. There's sticky stuff on the hood and front bumper from the adhesive from the box.

What's the best way to get it off without ruining the paint?

Goof-off? Goo-off?

Thanks, all.

Try a mild solvent such as ploain alcohol isopropanol (rubbing ) should be fine. If that doesnt work use nail polish sparingly (more dangerous but less work) I personally would use just alcohol even if it takes more work.deisel and gasoline will also work but like nail polish you have to be more careful. Whatever you use pour on the rag not on the paint. After the stuff comes off rewax the hole area. use a non abrassive wax (such as new finish) to finish it off. I have been an undying fan of New Finish since it came out in the 80's, It lasts for a long time (I apply it spring and fall) has now abrasives and gives a good deep shine. Through the years I have tried zymol, meguire's and various other expensive potions none has been better than the cheap stuff in hte orange bottle, I gave my new car a coat the day after I bought it. You might also attempt to rove the gob with new finish since it cleans with solvents rather than abrasives, its solvents are pretty weak though, anyway its a good start. Another good advice is to coat your glass with Rain X another famous polymer from the 80's. When that stuff came out I lived in Germany, known for its autobahn but what nobody tells you is that outside of the magnificent highways are roads that although in excellent condition, are always muddy due to farm vehicles. Rain X became an indispesable item in those conditions and ever after that. Good Luck

Well I guess a box is better than the rock that hit my windshield with only 120 miles on the car!!!! Oh Ya'; $#!+ !!!!!!!! and a few other choice words. I'm getting a price on the new windshield; I'll post the price when I get it.

Don't use Goo Gone. That stuff is too harsh for paint.

I used a VERY small amount of Goof-off, applied to a cotton towel, then immediately rinsed with water. Worked fine, paint not injured, and now there's a nonreflective spot where the stuff removed the Zaino as well as the adhesive. I plan on re-Zainoing (from Dawn wash to Z6..the whole thing) the entire hood again this weekend.

Thanks for the advice!

by the way, copter, sorry about your windshield. I think that's more painful than getting hit by a box....(and more expensive--the TL uses a special windshield with acoustic deadening material).

I have had good luck with Turtle Wax's Bug and tar remover. I own a white Buell Firebolt and it seems to always get small dots of road tar all over it from time to time. Using a Q-tip dipped in the B&T remover with delicate rubbing always gets it off.

Another good tip-- To remove tree sap, dampen a cloth with REALLY hot ( don't burn yourself ) water and let it loosen up the sap. After about 10 seconds it should just wipe off. Dry the area and apply a couple coats of wax and back to new!

"sticky adhesive issue"

The best thing that I have found to get adhesive off of "anything" is the use of WD-40. Anything that has any kind of adhesive backing will be removed by this stuff. Just remember to use a good car wash soap and a good coat of wax ( I use Meguiars, sp?) afterwards to clean my car, and have found this to work perfect.

I've never thought of WD40. That is indeed a good safe solvent! great idea!

I wish I'd thought of WD40! I've got some lying around the house that I couldn've used. I'll remember for next time.
